Just wanted to say thanks for making this video. It was thorough, informative, down to earth, and overall very peaceful. Especially the end with all the no talking shots of the stove. Really made me want to go camping. Cheers!

Thank you so much for a thorough & transparent review !! I’ve been over here debating on buying it for the past two days and you convinced me. The part about the kindling was honestly the most helpful portion !! I love a good fire, but I’m so clueless as to how to start it and keep it going for a while . I would have been stressed out trying to use the pebbles. Thanks & keep up the content .

Yeah the pellets are really problematic in it. It’s a “pretty” flame, but not practical. You’re better off using small chunks of hard wood.

I think a 1- or 2-gallon bucket of pellets, with a good little flour scoop or gardener's trowel would make pellets pretty convenient. I think you could cut your own screen to fit in the bottom of the stove, and dispense with Solo's pellet-burning accessory. It's almost like they don't want pellets to work. Pellets are more attractive out West, where they're cheap and convenient, and there aren't (m)any hardwood alternatives. If you're in hardwood country, like the midwest, east and northeast, you probably should look down your nose at pellets. I wonder if they make taller camp stoves of about the same diameter, that'll burn steady for longer.

I’ve tried everything with pellets. While it does work, it’s just not practical. I’m using kindling, hardwood, sticks, anything really and it all works better than pellets unfortunately. Good ideas! I’ll try that and see how I go. Thanks for commenting!

Great vid. I'm sitting in my condo in PHX feeling a little jealous. When I saw "OCD in full swing here" pop up I laughed because I know I'd be doing the same thing. I'd have them lined up just right for function and aesthetics. lol

Can you possibly add information about the table you are using? Thanks! Dan
@Laptopdog78

What type of wood was that you were using? The kindling I buy here is kiln dried softwood, and it burns through really quickly. I could see the moisture in the wood bubbling in one of your shots which leads me to believe this is a non seasoned hardwood? My point is that I want to find a wood that burns for longer so that I am not feeding it constantly. Thanks.

You’ll see what I mean. Use the pellets for “pretty” fire when friends come, kindling or wood chunks for sustained heat and prettyness

Where do you get wood that size, or I suppose what is wood that size called? Is it actually called kindling, like if you go to buy it somewhere?
@TheMidweekEscapeArtist
@TheMidweekEscapeArtist Жыл бұрын
Yep, then you cut it to size. Could be anything really, as long as it’s hard wood.

@TheMidweekEscapeArtist
@TheMidweekEscapeArtist Жыл бұрын
About the width of the burn chamber, many a fraction longer, just so the pieces fit in well without coming out the top. You want to make sure the level is below the secondary burn holes at the top of the unit ;-)

@harrymills2770
@harrymills2770 Жыл бұрын
I think the biggest chunks you can fit in there work best. Once it's hot enough to gasify, bigger chunks still won't smoke, but the smaller surface area makes the fire last longer. The more "OCD" you are about the fuel, the better results you'll get. If you don't plan ahead, it can be a pain getting small enough chunks to fit. I wonder how tall you could make one, and how long you could keep one going.

To expensive for the size. Cheaper to buy a can of crisco and burn it instead. This is the same size as the can of crisco and $$$ expensive. Not worth it. Also needs a lid to put out fire. Saw Amazon that it’s $99 bucks and doesn’t come with a stand. The stand can be ordered for extra $$. Ridiculous
