Watching you riding down that trail reminds me of an episode I had as an 18 y.o. kid back in 1965 when I was packing for a rancher in the Jackson Hole Wyo area up on Togwotee pass. We were working a USFS pine beetle spraying contract, and I was pulling a pack string of 4 horses plus my saddle horse. I was coming back out to the road for another load of 5 gal jeep cans of insecticide and had 8 empty cans on each horse. My lead packhorse was a sorrel named Rusty, and I loved him. He would follow me and pay attention and always walk up beside my right leg to get his head scratched when we stopped to take a break. But I had a knot-headed bay named Dime tied behind him that walked around half-asleep all the time with his head down. The halter ropes were tied to the packsaddle of the horse ahead, and we were coming up a trail on a steep sidehill and there was a small pine tree in the trail that we had to walk around because the trail was too steep to avoid it. The game trail split around the tree and I and Rusty went to one side and Dime went to the other side and when his halter rope came tight, he woke the hell up and pulled back and yanked Rusty's lead rope out of my hand slicker than the scum off a Lousiana swamp. Rusty went over backwards and rolled down hill to the creek bottom with cans and hooves flying and I figured he was dead. Of course Dime's lead rope broke loose so he just stood there stupidly denying everything. I bailed off my horse and ran down to Rusty 200 ft below me, thinking he was a goner, broken leg for sure, etc. He just laid there groaning and didn't even try to get up. I unsaddled him and let him get his wind back until he could stand back up and I led him back up to the string and brought the saddle and jeep cans that were scattered all over hell back up and resaddled him and started back out to the road. I was still telling Dime how lucky he was that I didn't have my 357 mag with me in the most colorful language I could think of when the boss Clint Guthrie came riding down the trail and asked me what the hell I was yelling about. He said he had been listening to me for the last 1/4 mile. So here is the end of the story. When the contract ended and we were getting ready to break camp and head back to the ranch, Myself and the other packer and a couple of sprayers were sitting in our tent drinking Old Bushmills Irish whiskey, and the SOBs set me up. They said "Kent, we've had to listen to you bitch about that Dime horse for weeks, and we think it is time you teach him a lesson" Now these packhorses had never had a man on their backs, most of them, Dime included. Just a packsaddle, because the diesel fuel in the insecticide burned their legs badly even though we used rubberized tarps to protect them as much as possible, but their lower legs swelled up badly and the hair sloughed off and most just went to the killer afterwards. Clint kept Rusty though because he was a saddle horse of his as well and his daughters rode him. They were gorgeous, and I lusted in my 18 year old heart after them, but he never invited me to join the family. The closest I got was Rusty. Anyway, so I was trapped. They wanted a rodeo and I was too drunk to say no. We went down to the corral and I put a riding saddle on Dime and cinched it up and he immediately knew the difference. A packsaddle didn't faze him. He just stood there trembling. I climbed on him and he just stood there, so I kick him with my heels and we made about three wild circles of the corral and it was over. I actually kind of felt sorry for him and I forgave him right there. We went back to the tent and finished the bottle, and I was the man of the hour. All that fun for 8 bucks a day and my room and board. Wouldn't have missed it for the world...

Shows your all class caring for loved ones many turn their heads. If your dad starts to show odd behavior slurred speech ect could be a urinary tract infection they really reek havoc on the elderly/ my nana recently past but I cared for here for the last 5 or 6 years and it was a blessing to be warned about the UTI's she would get real restless seem agitated angry and I would call doctor or tell hospice for a test or they have strips that work pretty good I found on Amazon but every time she was positive and within couple days she would be back to herself again. I believe they are overlooked and the symptoms blamed on Alzheimer's. I also found coconut water the best thing to keep her hydrated. Wish all the strength and blessings one thing I always kept reminding myself was to care for others sometimes you need to take time for ourselves even if it's a hour.
