Solo travel is my way. I do not stay in boutique hotels but I choose the safe stay and the cheapest I can get in a safe area. Worked so far.i like to take the public transport. I have breakfast out of the hotel. I travel with minimal luggage and it works perfectly. I like to spend money on a good excursion, museums and good food.

I love these suggestions, thank you! If I’m wearing an open jacket or coat I put my crossbody bag on underneath it for added security but still have easy access. Our hire car was broken into in France last year and everything including my backup prescription medications - it was a long 5 week trip - was stolen. I had escripts in my email inbox but these weren’t as universally accepted as I’d hoped! One pharmacist suggested a photo of a handwritten prescription would have be accepted so I’ll do that in future too. I was able to get what I needed for non-addictive medications but it was a bit of a fluke depending on where we were. Everyone went out of their way to help where they could and we even found one pharmacist who’d worked in Australia for many years so spoke our slang 😊And PS our insurer was great so apart from the shock and inconvenience we were able to replace most of what was taken eventually and had a terrific holiday regardless!

I’m a budget Gen X traveler, and I love hostels. But, it’s for people who like to meet other travelers and locals. I get better tips on what to do. However, if there’s a new boutique hotel, discounts are possible. I’ve stayed at 2 in Copenhagen, and now the price as increased a lot. I always cross reference the locations of accommodations, to make sure I’m in a safer neighborhood.

Great video. I would also recommend knowing where ur embassy is and having number handy and know how to dial it from within the country you are visiting. I once got very sick in London while working there and i called the US embassy, they were very helpful and referred me to a dr. They also offered an ambulance- which i did not need - . Its just a good resource- God forbid u become ill or have an accident . Yes would like to hear ur thoughts on tours . A bientot!!❤

I love Kit Kemp hotels! I stayed at The Whitby in NYC and it was lovely, my friend and I ran around the entire hotel taking pictures and the staff was super nice and indulgent. Also, the restaurant is great, and the food is served on china that Kit Kemp also designed, the china pattern is called Sailor's Farewell, and I bought the tea set and it's such a cute reminder of my stay! Highly recommend The Whitby, next time I go to NYC, I'm staying at The Crosby!

I couldn't agree more!!! It's like staying in someone's home and that is so special. I purchased a set of her mystical creatures years ago for the same reason as you. Kindred spirits!!

Too funny...but very easy!! Not the same look at a blow dryer/straightener, but so much lighter and no conversion issues.

Thank you so much for doing this video, it's full of good, practical information. I haven't traveled by myself out of the US, but I'm starting to think it's something I want to do in the near future. I'm glad to hear of good hotel recommendations, especially in Paris because that's where I would like to go. I look forward to the tour videos and I hope you mention the tour companies by name as that would be so helpful in choosing a good one.

Sharon Santoni (my french country home) offers the best tours I have ever been on in France. I can't say enough good things about traveling with her, especially after some not so great tours that were similarly priced.

When i travel i rake a carry-on and a tote. I also, carry a soft weekend bag that i can stash into my carry-on. When I'm returning I check the carry-on and carry my soft weekend bag with gifts.

If you are in a late-night culture city, it can be very reassuring to have a 24-hour reception desk betwen the entrance and the elevator.

So true...which means we need to do more research than just booking.com. Thank you for pointing out that potential issue.

Wish your course cost was more affordable. I am tired of life at home base with negative people. I feel so free and happy in France and Spain, but solo travel scares me as I am late 50s. Anyway, enjoy your videos and the beautiful mirrors in your apartment.😂

The book will be out in January and not expensive. It will have a step by step approach to you taking yourself through the process. Make that your new year's resolution! Solo travel isn't easy- I'm older than you! But I find the nerves settle down after a couple of days, as long as you choose a safe place to visit. Try a mini-trip and see how you feel. Thank you for your comment.

Just wondering what the best/safest way to travel from Paris airport to central Paris? I’d like to avoid the metro.
@extraordinarywomennextchapter29 күн бұрын
I always use a driver to and from CDG- Victor's Taxi. Victor.icabs.paris@gmail.com They aren't cheap, but cheaper than many and incredibly reliable, safe and good drivers. The driver meets you just outside the exit after you gather your bags, and you'll walk with them to their car or van. Taxi's are not as reliable, especially if you don't know the language. In October, I took the Eurostar back from London, so arrived at Gare de Nord (train station). Stood in taxi line, got in a taxi with a driver that drove the very long way to my destination and pretended he knew best. I was upset but couldn't say much.

I stayed at Number 16 in London! Loved the casual comfort and the lovely back garden.. However her New York hotels are out of my price range

They are expensive...and no little rooms at the top of the hotel like at Number 16.

Great Tips! Thank you! In one of my trips my wallet was stolen with 2 major credit cards in it, I did not have the number of the accounts written anywhere, it took customer service forever to find my accounts to be able to block them... just saying write those credit cards account numbers somewhere. is important.
@extraordinarywomennextchapterАй бұрын
That's a super suggestion!!- I totally forgot to mention I have copies of my credit cards that I keep with my passport and leave in my room safe. Great reminder!! Thank you.

Kit Kemp Hotels. Pretty pricey using New York for reference.
@extraordinarywomennextchapterАй бұрын
Kit Kemp's hotels- she has several in London (I stayed at Number 16) and at least two in NYC.

I think the name of her hotel company is Firmdale hotels- but if you search Kit Kemp you'll find her hotels.

Why didn't you just dump the books you were given? Or take them to a charity shop? I rarely buy anything abroad, except maybe food. Hate carrying stuff.

I agree, but the books given were part of the tour, and they were beautiful tabletop books. I couldn't leave them behind!!

I’m sure solo traveling works for many but for safety reasons, I would never go solo and I recommend even men not go solo.
