Solo Travel to Costa Rica

Trip Description:
* Day 1 Washington Dc to Juan Santamaria airport:
Sim Card: got a kolbi sim card here worked well for me with the data on my trip, hardly made any calls though. Its costs 10 to 20 dollars depending on the amount of data you choose.
Currency exchange: I had to get some colones before stepping out of the airport for just in case situations so exchanged for &40 and did not worry much about the rates.
Airport Taxi: I guess its a rip off. At the exit people start asking taxi taxi and they lead you into it and then I had to end up paying $40 for the ride to hotel. I booked uber while on the way back from hotel to airport and it costed me only like $12.
Reached Costa Rica backpackers hostel around 6pm. Wanted to give hostels a try but hostels was not for me as I'm a light sleeper and somehow killed the night on the couch in the common area which had much more fresh air than the basement room the hotel had alloted me. This hotel is 10 mins walk to the city center and all the museums. I went to a coreographer dance show at the national theatre at 8:00pm and the performance was something which I had never seen in my life.
* Day 2 San Jose to La Fortuna:
For my trip planning I mostly read the blog mytanfeet.com written brilliantly by Samantha about each and everything you need to know about Costa Rica.
Readers of this blog get 10% discount on bookings so I had booked a shuttles with Interbus referncing mytanfeet. Picks you and drops you at the hotel. you may save money by taking the public buses but the shuttle was hassle free and works well when on short vacation and want to cover a lot.
I stayed here at Arenal backpackers resort the tent in my video this stay was amazing. Clean, many young and friendly travellers, an awesome pool and a hangout place. I would recommend staying here.
* Day 3 One day la fortuna to Rio Celeste Tour
Booked this with Jacamar and the same thing we get 10% discount with mytanfeet. I did two tours with Jacamar and the same guide came for both of them and I must say he was 'GOOGLE', he had all the knowledge about anything you asked him. He actually had a PHD and worked this job part time and also was a teacher part time.
There are many tour local tour companies offering in town or at the hotel you stay for cheaper. But I like to book everything in advance and not worry about what to do on the trip or if the tours get booked out.
* Day 4 One day Combo Tour:
Booked this with Jacamar again and I enjoyed this tour too. So many things covered in just one day. Baldi hot spring to end the day was just too good.
* Day 5 La Fortuna to Monteverde
I took a taxi boat taxi to reach monteverde. This trip was a bit expensivve with Jacamar *around $40*, so I found few others and booked with anywhere.com for $25 but this tour was for $20 at the ArenalBackpackers resort that I stayed. It is how it is. If you are travelling for many days, I would recommend go and do all your bookings in town than online. But if travelling with tight no of days and on peak season book in advance as the tours may get filled.
Reached Monteverde and went to monteverde cloud forest and hiked on my own in the cloud forest. After that I went to a frog pond which had varities of frogs. There are buses at specific times running from santa elena town to all the touristry places around.
At Monterde I stayed in el sueno hotel and had booked a hostel before but when I reached I asked if they had a single room and they give me one with some discount.
* Day 6 Monteverde to San Jose
Reached san jose by 2pm and since I had not liked my stay at costarica backpackers in dorms so had changed my booking to a different hotel for a private room hotel la cuesta an this was pretty decent not great. But i had to kill just one more night so it was ok.
Went to the national stadium or the la sabana park to check out, as soccer is my game I wanted to see the soccer culture here.
* Day 7 Flight back to Washington DC
Went to the gold museum in the morning. Except the national theatre rest of the city is just like any other city and I would recommend staying more at other good touristry places. There is a small discount on student ids. So whenever you buying any tickets do ask for student discounts.
Back to hostel and booked uber to the airport. Uber was way cheaper than the airport taxi or other taxi's.
