I have relocated from Manchester to Edinburgh in December 2019 and it was the best decision I ever made. It might be more expensive, but if you will get a job which will pay you that difference in expenses, you will see you will be fine. I live in the very city centre and it's the best place i ever lived in the UK. I walk everywhere and it takes me 30 minutes to walk to almost all city centre spots and beyond to nature places like Holyrood Park or Blackford Hill. Edinburgh is not one of the most expensive places to live in the UK. The balance between salary and life expenses is said to be the most balanced in Edinburgh actually compared to the rest of the UK.
@3ve8735 ай бұрын
That's actually not true... If you look at the stats around rental costs etc, Edinburgh is ranked among some of the most expensive places (top 10-20 : no one is saying it is the most expensive or even in the top 5, because it's much cheaper than eg London, Cambridge, Brighton etc - but remember lots of people living in these commute to London with London sized salaries). Also, it depends for whom we are talking about; for students it's very expensive, as well as for tourists during the peak periods when they all flock to the city. Then it depends whether you're talking about rent or property affordability / groceries and bills. There is an echelon of society in Edinburgh who are paid well and the quality of life is fantastic, but a lot of people who spend the majority of their income on rent or live outside the city.

FYI, after just a quick google, Edinburgh is in the top 10 most expensive cities for both rental properties and for purchasing for first time buyers...

11:44: "During the Fringe, lot of people who are like me, get very angry" - exactly, Katarina! I hate all the extra noise pollution and the crowds that the Fringe is bringing to Edinburgh. They keep saying the city is benefiting hugely from the Fringe... Yes, the businesses (especially the hospitality industry) are benefiting, but not the ordinary residents. And btw: if the city is REALLY hugely benefiting from the Fringe - it would be nice for Edinbugh residents, for example, not to pay any Council Tax in August. To have the Festival month tax-free. Luckily for us area i]has out a stop to cars filling streets here during football days. I rem when I was younger I was training Jon near a famous stadium we got out late at night I had only my subway ticket return no money n lived miles away n I was refused to enter the subway by police so fans can use it. I had to walk home at 11pm at night through doggy streets roads for hours. After a long exhausting day work. I hate football. Ppl n it’s citizens should be priority esp when we young women without much money in a bad area at late hours of night trying to get home exhausted after work. Public transport should only be for citizens not fans they should get a city bus for fans to drop them home. I rem when I visited Edinburgh with my family in the 90s it wasn’t busy place but now it is full to the brim with tourist. If they all come for Harry Potter then that makes it worse.

the thing i like most about Scotland is, the people, they realise the weather is so shite they challenge the people they meet to smile and be nice , out of spite , there could be blowing a hoolie but wee Mary will argue with big mag's it's the best storm we'v had fur a wee while .

Every video I see regarding this topic is from the pov of a foreigner. I appreciate their viewpoint, but it makes me wonder why there aren't more videos on this topic from native inhabitants.

same with when the festival is on not even street musicians are scottish yet we have to deal with the city centre closed off or impossible to get to work.

Edinburgh is the best. I'm so blessed to live here, and just a 10 minute walk to Porty beach.

Sound quality? Lovely video, so things can only get better! For me, Edinburgh was 'just' growing on me when I saw this - I've not done the 'fringe'; Scots are definitely good natured and Edinburgh IS walk friendly, for me, that's great!

Wow. TOTALLY disagree with comments about the castle; there is MUCH in the castle to do and look at, I was there for 3 hours and I could have stayed longer! Great video, thank you!!! Good luck to you!

I was born and raised in Edinburgh and still live here in the Old Town. I like your story about the Taxi driver returning your phone. We like to make a fuss of people coming here and help them settle here. We are a city and a country of immigrants. People from all over the world are part of Scotland's story and of course our intention is to set a good example to our neighbours in the South :-) I hope you will try living here and experience the different 'parts' of the City. Remember that just a 30 minute bus journey will take you out of the city into rural countryside, which is beautiful for walks, castles, beaches and hills. Smashin'!

Less than 30 min. I love close to Cramond beach and the bus takes 15 min. to arrive at Princess Street.

I think Edinborough is only about miles from Dalhousie castle. My first kin was from Scottland before they came to America. I was Scottish before we moved here. The Ramsey Clan helped fight the English and were with William Wallace. That's on the history rerecords. So yeah. I was Scottish before an American Ramsey. And I'm proud of it. I watch the parades of the clans. I love one of the Scottish songs. One of my kin goes back to SimondeRamsey who is accepted as the first Ramsey in Scottland. historians accept that the Ramsey Clan spread from him. he's accepted the father of the Ramsey Clan.
