Pretty sure Dolphian is a pink dolphin, an endangered species. And maybe they were going for the legend of the pink dolphin, who was once a handsome warrior envied by a god, who turned him into a dolphin. Legend has it that, on full moon nights, it will transform into a man wearing a white tuxedo and a hat with amazing dancing skills and unable to get drunk no matter how much it drinks. He goes around town flirting with girls, who inmediately fall in love with him, and out of them all he picks the prettiest one and brings her near the lake, where they will make love (y'know) under the moonlight, and bathe until sunrise, when the dolphin transforms back. Other versions say that the woman unexpectedly becomes pregnant out of nowhere after meeting him.

Two things: alebrijes are sort of colorful spirit guiding animal hybrids that helps souls move to where they need to go in the after life and Calatrina also has La Catrina as part of its name, which is the most iconic symbol for Día de Muertos, which actually started as a satire when first envisioned, but is now synonymous with Día de Muertos. Amazing region over all!
@StupBot2 жыл бұрын
Actually no, as a latin myself, alebrijes doesnt have anything to do with day of the death/ dia de muertos, that was a Pixar creative lisence, the alebrijes actually originate from the dreams of a artesan called Pedro Linare, he dreamed with strange and colorfull creatures that screamed at him the word "Alebrije!" And then he made them scultures when he waked up, since then it became a very representative artesany, but doesnt have anything to do with the dia de muertos

Jitternut and Caffinivor are a coffe bean and a carnivorous plant mixed with a coffee cup
@katelinquarles60512 жыл бұрын
I think Jitternut and Caffinivor could be coffee themed. Central America is a huge area for coffee growing and the first mon looks like a “corrupted” evil coffee bean that evolves into a coffee fruit. Other clues that hint to the coffee theme are “jitter” and “caffin” relating to caffeine from coffee, Caffinivor looking like is possibly a reservoir filled with coffee, and the abundance of carnivorous plants in Central america. Basically I think the idea is a carnivorous, and therefore poisonous, coffee bean evolution!! If anyone has any other thoughts on these mons lmk what your thoughts are!
@zacharymaher28552 жыл бұрын
The first three lines, after the grass fire water starters, seem to be another set of starter Pokemon. They start of with different types, that still form a type triangle, and then gain the starter types in their final forms, that balances them out.
@jayr52772 жыл бұрын
In the dex listing on the artist’s DeviantArt, the 2nd set is actually listed first which makes me think they are, in fact, the intended starters of the region.
@lostfelinepiesh69172 жыл бұрын
Jitternut and Caffinivore appear to be based a combination of coffee beans and carnivorous plants. In nature caffeine is actually used by plants as an insecticide, so these probably eat bug pokemon. The base stage looks like it's had waaaay too much coffee, and the evolved stage is shaped like a coffee/tea cup and saucer. The regional Skiddo evolution appears to be based on a Musk Ox. The Tinderin line seems to be Marmosets mixed with Golden Lion Tamarins, with the lion part of the name taken a bit more literally for the final evo. Howitzaur is likely based on the mega fauna relatives of the Armadillos, the Glyptodonts. They were fairly ankylosaur like in appearance, and even possessed mace like tails as shown in the pokemon.

[12:38] Not to um actually but I think this is really cool! Gamefreak actually did originally do a regional variant that only changed the look with out the typing. Arbok for the first several gens has different faces and the idea was that it would look slightly different in each region, and the original plan for there to beany different versions of arbok in gen 1. So there is some precedent that kinda predates regional forms in general. I personally think it's cool to have new art styles for the same pokemon, but that is just me
@alastorcorvus2 жыл бұрын
Reservant is based on Chicatana ants, edible ants that carry sugar reserves in their abdomen. Axolotls (as in the Mexican group salamanders) are endemic to an specific region in Mexico, but some species are indeed endemic to specific rivers or lakes, often located on small towns. Liligant would make a lot sense as a Grass-fire because Marigolds (Cempasuchil) represented the Sun in the Mexican funerary traditions, and this was before Scovillain, so it makes even more sense. The Warrior pokemon is most likely based on an Toltec giant, not a samurai, but I agree that GF has done similar things before so I wouldn't discard it outright. Muskoat is a Yak and a goat turning into a yak and an Onion turning into a Weeping willow isn't that far-fetched by Pokemon logic.

@@PragMagik sure but shellos/gastrodon have geographical forms with minor anatomical differences and the flabebe flower color changes depending on where it's found without impacting stats, type, or moveset. So I was wrong saying there was no in universe justification for regional forms that aren't new types. And there's more changes within Vivillon's regional forms than say the Alolan Vulpix line which is literally just a recolor they gave ice type too and called a regional variant. I think you're getting hung up on the language and not giving the concept enough credit. Maybe calling the cottonee and petilil lines a regional variant is disappointing because they don't have a new type, but neither's so far from their base form that it's unbelievable compared to other geography based pokemon or even inter-game design tweaks. The Cottonnee has a new behavior, but visually they're just browner versions of the base pokemon in a new pose.

i don’t want to be that guy, but technically they did have regional variants without changing the type (though i don’t know if the term “regional variant” was used). the best examples are arbok which was scrapped after gen 3 i believe, and vivillon, so i kinda like that the meso region had liligant and whimsicott with the same type
@dynojackal19112 жыл бұрын
Ferredox's head crest, wings, and sickle talons have superheated edges. That's its Fire typing. The Whimsicott should be Grass/Flying (because tumbleweed) and the Lilligant should be Grass/Ground or Grass/Fire. I think it's pronounced "em-BRO-yo". The Reveservant line should be a split evolution with a mono-Bug with the beehive abdomen and a Bug/Fighting Guardrone without said abdomen. Gillbender is based on hellbenders, the largest salamanders found in the Americas, and second in size to the giant salamanders of China and Japan. Muskoat is pulling in elements of Musk oxen; both goat and cattle are bovids. Love both Howitzaur and Smeltork. Judojo and Jitsudo seem more like a 2-stage line than counterparts. Like Tyrogue to Hitmonlee without the other Hitmons. Both Quenzuru and Kinzuru are Fairy/Dark.
