This guitar looks cool and has good specs. If the neck is good and the build quality is there, then I call it a good guitar, other compomponents can be changed easily. And as always, you rock dude!

9.5" neck radius is brutally short for a metal guitar. Especially if you're used to 17" Ibanez necks.

Thank you for your service, Kort! And you're right about Les Pauls being heavy as mine is almost 10 lbs.. I could slap wheels on it and drive it around town with complete confidence. This MS-1 seems nice with decent appointments, but will be a pain for those who don't tinker with hardware. It's got a nice chunky tone, so the pickups must be decent. I've been under attack by guitars in my time, more notably from Guitar Center in the showroom. Never pick up an axe and just start playing it without inspecting it first in that place. You walk in as a customer and leave as a trauma patient. Anyway, thanks for the rundown and enjoy the SoloKing! 👑🎸🔥

Sweet, we need more competition! Hopefully the bigger brands do start taking notice. The Cort TT looked great, sadly it's going for 1k+ more than in the rest of the world in the US(I think most of the West).

Looks exactly like my Fazley Sunset Series Sand Shark that Bax Music is selling - except the trussrod adjustment and stainless steel jumbo frets. I think these are just spec'd by the importer and build in the same factory. The fret sprout issue is typical for wood that is still shrinking - so when the guitars are in stock for a long time and nobody checks them again before going out, they will have razer sharp fret ends and the shop doesn't even know it. Judging from your serialnumber I'd say it has been built in 2022 - so that's a long time for the wood to shrink.

@@ayeapprove totally dude the necks being a cold AF warehouse in England that'll do it haha. Still need to try a fazley or jet. I hear good things.

I've got the same guitar and got mine from Andertons but I'm not into the pick ups. I like Entwistles but not the ones in this. Well need to change the bridge pick up I think.

Does this green thing really do anything? I ended up stuffing cotton wool at the end of the nut to eliminate ringing when palm muting.
@ayeapprove2 ай бұрын
Usually it's enough for something to just lightly touch the part of the strings behind the nut, unless they are super loud ringing strings.
@resington2 ай бұрын
@@InTheSh8 yeah works great for muting all the string noise.

Subscribed. Nice review. I am not handy, so been wondering about the frets on these - especially with them being SS (stainless steel, not Third Reich). Cheers.

What’s the neck shape. Is it like a fender or a Charvel size neck and are the stock pick ups good enough where you won’t change them? Thanks

You should try a fender guitar. The neck, the feel...omg... it's like it plays itself. Same with Gibson. Played ESP, LTD; Jacksons, Washburn all my life but Fender... jeez.

I love me a cheap frankenstrat! 😀 I recently bought the cheapest strat copy I could find, which was the Gear4Music own-brand one. The thing plays like a dream. How is it possible that guitars today are so good, and so cheap!? It's madness. the only issue it had was that the nut was cut a bit rough, but 5 minutes with some sandpaper sorted that out. For some extra WTF?! points I dropped in an old Vega Trem bridge, a roller nut and a blade humbucker in the bridge position. The friggin' bridge cost 2x as much as the entire guitar! 🤣 But it's now my go-to 80s shred machine.

As far as I know, all Soloking guitars are made in Indonesia, not China [edit: but yours clearly says made in China, so that means I must be wrong - sorry!]. Not that it matters much as individual factories within those countries differ quite a bit. I would guess the fret sprout was due to major differences in climate/humidity from where the guitar was made. Although the UK is fairly wet, I imagine winter time relative humidity is lower than Indonesia, which is tropical and close to the equator. [edit: all that reasoning falls apart if the guitar was made in China - lol, egg on face for me]. You're right about Entwistle pickups. Like Warman and Irongear, they sound great, and unlike some other great sounding but more boutique brands like Fralin, Lollar, Kinman etc, they don't break the bank.
