Manasseh Damukana Sogavare, Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, addresses the general debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 19 - 26 September 2023).
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

👏👏👏 The Solomon Islands Prime Minister is articulate and doesn't mince his words. Hopefully, the Australian government will be listening and learn something from this intelligent gentleman. The close relationship the Solomon Islands has forged with China, and how it impacts their nation can only be viewed as positive. Whatever Washington is holding over Australia needs to be severed immediately before it leads our region down the path of destruction. We need America to leave our region and go home and cause trouble in their own lands, if that's what they wish to pursue. Twice mentioning Cuba and the illegal sanctions the US has had placed on this island nation for decades must end. Thank you Mr President 🙏 The UN must ACT to END these INHUMANE measures IMMEDIATELY. The deplorable use and testing of nuclear weapons in the Marshall Islands and surrounding Islands must also be addressed and all these peoples and their lands which are contaminated must be compensated. Bravo 👏 👏 👏 Japans dumping of nuclear water into our oceans is unacceptable. If it is safe, Japan should use it for their own use. 👏👏👏 Bravo The Solomon Islands must be proud to have such a strong forceful person as their leader. It's comforting to know that the US won't be pushing their country around while he's in charge. 👏👏👏

It's all good that this person has impressed with his good oratory skills. Many of the international issues sogavare mentioned exist and need collaboration at a cohesive level. However, this person is a pacific version of the late President Mugabe... a skilled orator who is in charge of a corrupt country whose economy is in tatters, unemployment high, cost of living too high while our politicians enjoy a wonderful life! I'd be embarrassed to point out other countries flaws when my country is sinking, and I contribute to milking it dry! Sogavare and his cabinet ministers are all millionaires while people in their villages are struggling to sustain their families. Shameful to shine on the international stage, blabbing about international issues while Solomon islands is wallowing in domestic despair!!

Should have more nations, especially from south pacific and SE Asia to speak up against the nuclear contaminated water discharge from jpn. These small island nations from south pacific and E Asia and SE Asia get affected the most. Their livelihoods depend mainly on fishing and seafood. In fact, all of us get affected by this contaminated water discharge, and those countries in pacific ocean and Asia region get affected the most. The livelihoods of all those fishermen and even we as consumers also get affected for thousands of years. People always think jpn is good, kind, transparent, blahblah.. They are all fake and put on a mask to fool people for so long.

Why doesn't UN discuss it as an agenda? The water in the tanks must be checked fairlly by more organs to get everyone's understandings, while It is checked only by Tokyo-E-Co & IAEA from only 3 tanks, very easy to be cheated.
