Great character from the creator of Conan. The stories are really atmospheric. I believe the film makers planned to produce a trilogy but obviously the film wasn’t successful enough. Great shame. Would make a great tv series though. Purefoy is a fantastic actor, I think his Mark Anthony in Rome is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen.

I was surprised of how well the actor and the scrpit captured the esence of the original character. Sure, Solomon Kane is a man with no past and by no means he is a "man of peace" but is believable hipothetical origin story and once Solomon abandons his fear of eternal punishment it feels almost exactly like he did in his stories. A hidden gem, for sure.

Personally i always enjoyed and still enjoy this movie. It's a hidden gem with a great actor in the title role. James Purefroy does a great job portraing the main character. Besides that, he sadly is one of the most underrated and overlooked actors of our time, a shame really. Solomon Kane is a typical Robert E. Howard creation and as thus easily likeable, at least if you enjoy so called "low fantasy" films, novels and such. Guess the movie just was not released at the right time, that's why it more or less failed at the box office. A shame idead, i really would have enjoyed its sequel(s).

I know everyone in this comments section is clamoring for a remake/sequel/series because they are fans, but let's remember the time we are living in and do not delude yourself into thinking the production and distribution companies making these will not completely betray the original IP and its fans. Be careful what you wish for lest you end up with a soul destroying, ultra-woke slopfest that will forever taint your memories of a great character. It is probably best that what has been made is kept and revisited instead of remade and reviled.

My favorite adaptation of Solomon Kane would still have to be Mystic Hammer’s short Solomon Kane film adaptation of Solomon Kane: The Return of Sir Richard Grenville which can be found on KZbin, It’s a short film and it has a small budget and is twelve years old, but it’s closer to Robert Howard’s original character and story than anything else out there.

I agree about how underrated the film SOLOMON KANE is I knew before seeing the film, that it had a good pedigree, if done right you can't go wrong with anything written by Robert E Howard, and this film WAS done right,- very well made, adventurous, swash buckling, great photography & moody colour pallette, an absorbing story, with some clever twists & sword play stunts, NOT like other Pirate type films on the minus side, the...fire Demon could have been done better, Malachi looked like something from a grunge rock band, meets the page of a book, and the crucifiction was used up in Conan the barbarian, Kane renounced his evil at the click of two fingers, but still well worth watching, & how often do we get a...17th century puritan type story? VERY rarely, not since WITCHFINER GENERAL 1973 & the important CROMWELL film from 1970
