Awesome video, thank you for the escape. As a Scot, I should point out that the really hard bread you tried with jam was actually a potato scone...and an overcooked one by the looks of it. They'll go like leather if you overdo it. Pro tip, if you ever end up with one like that, cover it in the beans and it'll soften up a bit. :)

I live at Loch Lomond so it was lovely to see a tiny glimpse of it here, though the road along part of it is a little bit narrow!! I did this sleeper train almost 20 years ago, but I was in a seat, not sure I could do that these days! Our food is quite unfairly judged. Yes we do have bad food here, but we also have LOTS of amazing food! Your first station in the dark in the morning was my regular train station for work for a few years and is called Singer after the famous Singer sewing machines (there was a huge factory there for years). The middle of nowhere station is called Crianlarich and I've been stranded there a couple of times! 😂 The cracker was a tattie scone - a type of potato cake (I love them when they're fried). The salty ham was a Lorne sausage. Courrour station is the most remote station in the UK and has featured in a few movies. I would love to get off the train there and go explore around Corrour! I really want to know what you thought of haggis!!

I'm going to loch Lomond for a wedding later in the year. Do you know the best way to get there for someone whose body is not that great? I was hoping I could take London city airport to Glasgow and then a bus but then I realised it doesn't go there. My budget was below 200 one way as I'm going Newcastle after... Well I wanted to until getting to this wedding was having me have to take out a mortgage !! 😅
@sueKay7 ай бұрын
@@selorm It would depend on the venue as the loch is pretty big with a few different villages that have venues, but Balloch is connected by train to Glasgow and there's a taxi rank next to the station, if that helps 🙂 If you're happy to let me know which venue it is I can help you figure out the best way to get there from Glasgow

Welcome to the UK! As you now know, the comments about bad food are all lies. So pleased you visited, did you get to see the money? Scotland has it's own coins & notes (bills in US), they are the same value but don't bring them to England as no-one will accept them. I often visit St Pancras, it is where the trains to France & Belgium (under the sea) depart. The rail journey between Carlisle to Settle is well worth a visit too. Note, thin pizza are easier to eat using the cutlery provided! The sleeper trains are well known for cold showers, it is about time the problem is fixed. I see from the date on the Tesco bread you were here in November, (24/11). Looking forwards to next video.

I used to take the train from Newcastle via Edinburgh and Glasgow to Arisaig a few times each year. Ranoch Moor is quite desolate. Worse when they were building the track. It is actually floating in places, they built it by throwing brushwood (small trees) into the bog and then adding stone on top. The bog won't let anything decay. One Christmas holiday I was on the train in snow and we stopped between stations, a little while later a man covered in snow walked through the train. They stopped and picked him up, because he wasn't safe. He didn't want to get on the train, but they wouldn't leave him to walk and see if he made it out. In the early 80s in winter there were only a handful of people on the train. Sad that you didn't continue to Mallaig from Ft William. Then there are the Caledonian MacBrayne's ferries. I think you night have found some less great food there. The best food we had was at pubs. So sad to only be there for a short time and not even visit the town. I used to go there as a child for six weeks every summer. Back then the railway station was where the main road is now, and the main road ran through the middle of town. Too much world, too little time.

The red leaves were pickled cabbage. Usually served with stew/casserole but I guess meat is ok too. The nasty looking "cracker" was a potato 'scone', called different things throughout the uk but it's basically mashed potato, salt and flour mixed then flattened out and cooked on a griddle/flat plate. Love mine fried (after griddling) in bacon fat or grilled in a toaster and soaked with salted butter.
