I am not sure everyone realizes but if I remember this right, at the time his agent was demanding that a 40 or 50m release clause should be added in his contract and I get the reason why because United were in a transitional phase so they were still long way behind (I'd argue we still are right now) from being a team competing for top trophies. Dortmund did not care about the release clause so they paid the 20m and you all saw for how much Haaland came to City.
