Great to hear Jerusalem in his prime before unbearable barking set in by the late 80's. He is splendid here, lovely lyricism, tender expressivity, nuanced yet powerful.

He had recovered from his vocal problems by the early 90's. His Tristan through the 90's at Bayreuth under Barenboim was sublime ! As was his Siegmund at Bayreuth in 84 and 85....

Sieglinde's Scream at 24:50 has to be one of the best moments in Opera history.

however, it is not indicated in the score! to be in Opera history. Perhaps in the producers' stories of preferences. Very Freudian effect!

The Rysanek School of Screaming and Scenery-Chewing. I can’t stand that scream by any soprano. It’s not in the score either.

Wonderful singing! I heard both singers at the teatro Colón, Buenos Aires but in different performances, Altmeyer in 1981, with James King as Siegmund and Jerusalem in 1996 with a darker tone in his voice after the heavy diet of Siegfrieds and Tristans during several years. Coincidentally both tenors were in the same age 56 when singing this role.

I LIKE HIS WINTERSTURME ...here the best

Have a listen to Torsten Kerl, Robert Dean Smith, and of course Jonas Kaufmann to hear Wintersturme sung beautifully by modern tenors.
