ANNA! I have had an awful mental health day. Panic attacks this morning and this video and everything you said in it was you speaking directly to me! I'm not joking... Progress not perfection, gentle...all the words can be applied to life in general, not just a manicure. Not to mention I completely agree with these videos not being boring - I would 100% rather watch you file gently and push back PNF'S thank some elaborate nail art ANY DAY! It's so comforting!

You said something VERY important. Dry skin tears! That's why in the past, when I would have very dry skin, it would build callus, then sometimes develop painful cracks. Filing off the callus would then expose the tender DRY skin that has no elasticity or suppleness and BAM! It would crack and bleed easily. You are correct. Treating my dry skin and keeping it supple and elastic allows the skin to work without excessive buildup of dry skin, callus, etc. Can't thank you enough!

Thank you so much for this video! I was a chronic nail biter. I would bite and chew my nails off as a child. Not just a little bit. But until there was almost no nail left and they would bleed. I got a few infections along the way. In my late 20's I stopped biting my nails off and worked super hard to let them grow. Which they have now. But I still have calloused dry skin that cracks and tears. Causing me to trim or file it off because they hurt until I get them off. I am going to get the creams and oils you suggested and try to take better care of them. All my life I have wanted beautiful hands and nails. I was really unaware that a bit of proper moisturizing can go such a long way. This gives me hope. You did such a wonderful job with your client. You have a very warm kind soul. I loved your video. I will put more focus on proper nail care so I can have beautiful nails and hands like your client does. ❤

I understand that you're testing the "possible Nail Glow substitute" but I am also quite curious about what you observe and the name of the product. *Edit: I see you've already identified it later in the comments! I've been following your recommended practices: keeping my nails short, using rich creams and avocado oil, pushing back the pnf gently every day. My hands have greatly improved in the last month. Hello lovely, just come across your channel as a chronic nail picker and you have influenced me already :) I have recently started to grow out my nails but still getting the urge to skin pick and 'trim my cuticles' although my nails are considerably longer. I now know this is the proximal nail fold and live skin because of you and shared your video in a Reddit community for chronic skin pickers because I felt like a lightbulb went off in my head. I am also currently sat with coconut oil on my nail beds and it feels like my skin has drank all the moisture up like an instant relief I've never felt before from moisturizer. I've always had sensory issues with oils before because of the greasy feeling but used a small amount like you said and it's fine :) I wanted to thank you so much for your channel because I feel like my nails might finally start to look nice in a few weeks and I have never felt like that was a possibility before
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Hello there Queen :) Believe it or not oils are not hydrating. They are emollients and they soften the skin. Try jojoba, coconut oil is not as light as jojoba. Also the oils are good for the skin around the nails and the nail plates, not nail beds. Nail bed is the skin under the nail plate :) Please check out this 3 minute video to see my easy but very effective routine kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn27loyqiaxrhbc I'm not sure about cruelty free. Cruelty free is a marketing term and the unrestricted use of this phrase by cosmetic companies is possible because there are no legal definitions for these terms. www.fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetics-labeling-claims/cruelty-freenot-tested-animals

Hi Anna / Ana ?, I love the idea of a gentle manicure. Thank you for sharing with use the details on how one is done. My nails were, what I thought, were healthy for many years. I do have ridges in my nails and they're splitting at some (not all) of those ridge points. I'm going to begin oiling & moisturizing like crazy. If you have time I wonder if any of the following help OR hurt? 1) nail shape (any reason in particular you use round shapes?) 2) nail length (should I try to keep nail split filed off?) 3) wearing or not wearing treatments (I always wear "Nailtiques Formula 2plus" - I'm in USA. I thank you so much and will keep looking through your videos to see if I can find these answers.

Let's be honest, even if you have oily skin you should still be applying creams and moisturizers after you wash with a cleanser or soap. Look for oil-free, non-comedogenic, with ingredients that work to rehydrate skin like hyularonic acid because the reason skin is oily is because it's trying to compensate for the oils you keep stripping away. It's a rebound effect just like cutting the proximal nail fold. Adjusting the soap or cleanser you're using might also be a good idea since it might be stripping too much oil away. Honestly wish someone had told me this earlier and not to strip it to hell and back.
@jessicah34502 жыл бұрын
Hyaluronic acid is a good ingredient for oily skin because it's not oily. I'm not sure about using oils to treat oily skin, even though a lot of people say that. By that same logic, people with dry skin should stop moisturizing, so their skin compensates for dry skin by making more oils. Oil production is partly genetic and due to hormones also, not just what you are applying to the skin. It is important to moisturize all skin types though. My oily skin became less oily from using hyaluronic acid essences.

How often should client like this come for a mani? Every week? Every 2 weeks? ☺️
@TheSalonLife2 жыл бұрын
Clients usually come every 2 weeks. Personally when doing DIY manicures I really recommend doing them once a week. Makes a huge difference. Especially when you care for your nails. That’s why DIY manis can be different from salon manicures. I see clients every 2-3 weeks at best. And they usually don’t do any homecare. I really want to see this clients progress so she will hopefully come back next week. My treat :)

We follow high level disinfection/chemo sterilization. Metal files are soaked in water until they are scrubbed with soap and water and rinsed. Then put into a disinfectant solution we change every second day (according to the label) for 10 minutes at 10% strength to achieve chemo sterilization. Then they are dried and put way. Buffer blocks can’t be disinfected and they are 1 use only item.

A tip to soften feet: At least once a week, slather them with Vick's Vapor Rub before bed, and cover them with socks (to keep the Vick's off your sheets). In the morning, your feet will be noticeably softer. This is what hospitals and long-term care facilities use to keep patients' feet soft and keep fungus at bay. Learned it from my RN mother, and it really does work. Cheap, too. Don't know why it wouldn't work for super-dry hands, too.
@TheSalonLife2 жыл бұрын
Hello there :). Vick’s Vapor Rub might work for fungus, I’ve actually seen a study showing that in fact it helps but I wouldn’t recommend it to this client. Vick’s Vapor Rub is pretty much a Vaseline with essential oils and camphor. Essential oils would be way too irritating for sensitive skin. Like I said maybe good for hard skin on feet or fungus but not great for irritation and hard skin. For that lanolin would be more suitable. Vaseline too. Fantastic for sensitive skin.
