2:32:07 - Sir the question is definitely right ... There is no need for the condition XA = XB ... Like if I take a mol of A and b mol of B ... Now it is given that the A is more volatile than B .. then the molecules of A will form more vapour relative to their Concentration ... And molecules of B will form less ... Now .. let's take any value .. for example ... 0.1 mol of A and 0.9 mol of B .. and it is given that P⁰A = 10 and P⁰B = 9 ... Total vapour pressure = P⁰A a + P⁰B b = 0.1/1 × a + 0.9/1 × b = 0.1×10 + 0.9×9 = 1+8.1 = 9.1 Now in this pressure ... The mole fraction in vapour phase for A is PA /PT = 0.1 × 10 / 9.1 = 1/9.1 ... Now if we take such abrupt values too ... We get the same result ... That .. XA < YA ... Since .. 1/10 < 1/9.1 .... Sooo no matter what values are given ... If P⁰A > P⁰B .. in each case .. XA is going to be less than the YA .. where XA is mole fraction of A in liquid phase and YA is mole fraction of A in vapour phase ... !!!
