Professor Organic Chemistry Tutor, this is another outstanding video/lecture on solving Stoichiometry problems in AP/General Chemistry. Although the problems are similar, writing the Chemical Equations and solving them can be problematic from start to finish. 8:51 The other way to think about it is to put the stoichiometric number _under_ its own side, like (M1 V1) / S1 = (M2 V2) / S2. You can then see that if it's twice as "good", you only need half as much. Because quantity has a quality all of its own.

In question 2, why were the coefficients switched? Shouldn't there be 2 KI for every 1 Pb(NO3)2, so M1V1=2(M2V2), as in more of KI in comparison to PB(NO3)2 and not the other way 2(M1V1)=M2V2
@anon102

we are trying to make it equal on both sides. so if there is 2 mol KI for every 1 mol Pb(NO3)2, we have to multiply the side relating to Pb(NO3)2 times 2 to make the moles equal

Quick question, does the order of the chemical equations matter? For example, in problem 2, you wrote out Pb(NO3)2+2KI -----> PbI2+2KNO3. Would the opposite (2KI+Pb(NO3)2 -----> KNO3+PbI2) be incorrect?

when your balancing, do you assign the coefficients through charges on the periodic table? Or oxidation numbers?
@dontknow7863
@dontknow7863 4 жыл бұрын
when you are balancing equations you need to have the same amount of atoms on each side. so for example: Fe + HCl >> H2 + FeCl2 = Fe 2HCl >> H2 + FeCl2, so now you have 1Fe atom on each side 2H atoms on each side and 2Cl atoms on each side.

Ok, would people please stop teaching students to use M1V1=M2V2 for everything? Doing a separate mole ratio step works every time, and most of the time students won't remember to incorporate molar ratios into the ***DILUTION*** equation. It's for dilutions only, and after 9 years of seeing the same mistakes, I wish it would stop being perpetuated, especially by popular KZbin tutorials.
