Hi Mr. Brian! Would you be open to holding bi-weekly or weekly videos or live sessions for tutors and students whom have math questions and we work them out together? I appreciate all you do! Keep up the great work!

Since 10x is the common denominator, you can have 4 - 5 = -5x; 5 - 4 = 5x; 1 = 5x; x = 1/5. As long as x is not equal to 0, you are good (2x or 5x = 0; x = 0 if you set any of the denominators equal to zero.).

I recently realized, that rather than cross-multiplying the LHS; bringing it all under one equation resolving to a zero, is so much easier. Considering the equation, the only problem we really have, is that "one" denominator on the LHS has an x term. So let's first just bring everything to one side, like so: (2/5x) - (1/2x) + (1/2) = 0 Secondly, it would be prudent to find a common factor for all of these fractions that we can multiply them with, in order to remove the 'x' from the "5x" term. This factor should be (2x), as it resolves the condition and also helps splendidly in reducing the other fractions, like so: (4/5) - (1) + (x) = 0 This equation resolves to a negative one-fifth, and by putting it on the RHS, we immediately have our answer. It was simple, and quite a fun way to get a grip of what you already know. Thank you for the problem, Mr. Brian! ❤

I went with the LCD on the left side and finished with the bow tie. Plugged in my solution (1/5) and it worked. I see that your method works of course but it's tougher to visualize as far as I'm concerned. Plus, you think faster than your pen, hence the need to correct yourself on the spot. Take that as constructive criticism please. :) I like your style but sometimes your pace is way too fast.

Even easier, factor out 1/x on the LHS: 1/x·[2/5 - 1/2] = - 1/2. Multiply through by x: [2/5 - 1/2] = - x/2. Multiply through by -2: -4/5 + 1 = x. Thus x = 1/5 ◼

LHS (get same denominator) 2/5x - 1/2x = 4/10x - 5/10x = -1/10x now compare this with RHS = -1/2 therefore 10x = 2 and x = 0.2 or 1/5

Cross multiplication is more simple find this solution 2(4x - 5x ) = -10x² -2x = -10x² x = 1/5
