8:21 i think this code would never check the center odd character since 3/2 (integer division) = 1, so it only checks for i=0, so str[0] and str[2] - there aren't quite enough pixels or the camera is out of focus on the code or something, but it looks like it doesn't subtract 1 from the second char, so in reality it'd check str[0] == str[3], which is out of bounds, but close enough, off-by-one errors can be forgiven in a challenge like this, but assuming it does subtract one, it checks str[0] and str[2], then when i=1 the condition i < (3/2 = 1) is false, so it exits, but even if it exits, that's not an issue, because the middle character can and should be ignored in a palindrome validator

This was my solution in scary JS (just what I had on hand) and with actually iteration ending criteria, whenever you do recursion you always want a hard ending condition to protect for stack overflow. Frankly in real life I avoid recursion like the plague, because we simply aren't allowed to use it in mission critical systems (in case of stack overflows) -- but it's so convenient! Also mine allows for starting at 0, 1 and 1, 1 that depends which sequence you adhere to. The 1,1 is used for story points because we can't have 0 story points at my customer for example. function fib(a, b, c){ c--; if (c < 0) return; if (a < 2) { console.log(a); fib(a+b, a, c); } else { console.log(a); fib(a+b, a, c); } } fib(0, 1 ,100);

It's sad to see how few people can relate to Programming/CS/ STEM in general. Coding may not be a skill everyone needs, but coding teaches you to think logically. If you develop a program, you first have to mentally develop a universal, objectively interpretable solution to the problem, aka something the computer understands. I feel like that definitely is a skill everyone should learn. Developing a guide on how to solve a problem without the need for subjective input is essential in our daily tasks.
@CallousCoder
@CallousCoder 6 ай бұрын
Naah I disagree. That would be like a metal worker saying: "everybody should at least know how to work a lathe because it is logical thinking and order of processes is incredibly important." A lathe worker or CNC coder can do things you can and vice versa, whilst it is all logic and maths oriented.

4:17 well, if you wanted to save your money and do a "trick question" (which is a bit scummy), you'd also point out the fact that this code returns the completely incorrect answer for negative values of n, and not just that it's off by 1 iteration like the positives, but it straight up does not handle negative numbers, even though the problem description did not omit negative numbers as input
@Flameandfireclan
@Flameandfireclan 2 жыл бұрын
For those of you that tried to do this in python: (The palindrom question) it’s actually surprisingly easy. First I thought I needed to make a for loop. But all it took was some of statements: print(“Write a word to check if it’s a palindrom) word = input(“ “) if word == word[::-1]: print(“It’s a palindrom”) else: print(“not a palindrom”) I know this is some basic stuff, but I’ve just started to learn to code. Sometimes the solution is easier than you might think
@naveenn780
@naveenn780 2 жыл бұрын
How do you think word[::-1] works?
@Flameandfireclan
@Flameandfireclan 2 жыл бұрын
@@naveenn780 Well if the elements in a string corresponds to the same index number as it would if the string is reversed. Then palindrom = True. If the index number doesn't corresponds to each other, then palindrom = False. That's my initial thought. I might be wrong. Last time i checked the code seems to give me the intended results. I could check again.
@naveenn780
@naveenn780 2 жыл бұрын

Oh, so now I have to watch a 20 sec unskippable ad, then another promotion/ad once the actual video starts, then some intro about subscribing to the channel and a minute later finally I get go watch the actual content? Thanks KZbin.

wouldn't the last guy's solution throw an indexation error on the first iteration because it was searching for index [len - i] but in the first case when i == 0 the index that evaluates will be len - but len is outside the index range of the string --> it should be [len-i-1] to avoid indexation - or am i missing something?

The guy did say to use whatever language and some do count like [1 - n] rather than [0 - (n-1)]. afaik Visual Basic does that in its eternal quest to be the worst language of all time. Here's an example of VB fun. C++: int a = 0; VB: DIMENSION a AS INTEGER INITIALLY 0
