Thank you so mush for pointing out this issue because I am currently considering purchasing both the 920 or one of the other two keyboards mentioned and this is something that is VERY important to me. I own a DGX670 and a Medeli AKX10 and both of these handle the sustain carryover issue correctly. Why these other top end and expensive keyboards don't is mind blowing. Thank you DennisBucs. Well the AKX10 suffer the same issue, but for that kind of price to me and also due to the hardware limitation its reasonable. Oh well let just hope that new firmware to fix the issue is coming soon

You're right, the previous series (sx900, sx700, Genos1, and even DGX670) behave the 'correct' way as you described; the sound continues after letting go of the note and turning off the voice as long as you are pressing sustain. And you're also correct, it cuts off on sx920. But it also cuts off on Genos 2 (out for almost 11 months) and PA5x (out for nearly 2.5 years) and nobody's really noticed it before, so I'm not sure it's as "huge" an issue as you say, if nobody else has noticed in 2.5 years... you're just really, really observant! btw, the issue is resolved by either holding notes with your fingers (any held notes *do* continue after voice shutoff) or turning on manual sustain. And yes, this applies the sx920, G2; However, even holding the keys? The PA5x sound abruptly cuts off if you shut off RIght1, etc

@@MarkWilburnTLM Genos 2 also have this issue? I played with Genos 2 when its launch and didn realise this issue. It could be very less user make a complaint about this, that is why until now it still not resolve. To me that is how i play with the PSR, and i own several units of PSR in the pass, plus i work as Yamaha Product Specialist for 10 years in the past, lucky enough for me to realize the issue. And there are few customer in Malaysia complaint about this issue already so i do hope Yamaha will take this seriously and release a firmware to fix this issue ASAP. If your Genos 2 has this issue, you can make a complaint to your nearest Yamaha stores. I still have the 1st gen Genos and did not have this issue. And to me, keep holding the notes while changing the Right part on and off dont really efficient as the button are quite far, also the sustain button is far too 😓

@@DennisBuCS Yes, the Genos 2, sx920, PA5x all have this issue (actually PA5x I can't even hold the note to keep the sound going, it stops regardless) and the sx700/sx900/Genos1, DGX670 do not have this issue, no. I've been working in the same music retailer for decades, so I've seen it all! (well, mostly). I *have* forwarded your video to Yamaha, yes. But just be aware, the PA5x has had this issue for 2.5 years already, and nobody (not even me) noticed. But I forwarded to them because it never hurts to ask for an update fix. The fact that you played with the G2 at launch but didn't notice this is exactly my point; it's a bug, yes, but not one that was detected for years... like I said, you're very observant! There are also a few other bugs in the G1 that they've ironed out for G2, btw. For example, they accidentally removed chord step recording with user styles in G1, sx700/sx900/A5000, but restored it with G2, sx920 (it was also in all previous models going back 20+ years). Oops.

Yes SX 720 even with the latest firmware update v1.10 has the same issue. This is super annoying since I use registration memory a lot and when the sound cuts off immediately when another Reg memory is pressed ruins the entire flow of the song. My PSR SX 700 did not had this issue. Hope Yamaha will ship a firmware upgrade soon since this is indeed a show stopper for any gig.

As I said in my last post, I was having the same problem. I found the problem was due to the sustain function being assigned to the wrong pedal. Anyone with the problem should check they haven’t done what I did or unplug the sustain pedal and plug into the alternative Jack plug socket. It worked for me.

@@eileenhardwick7904 its not the sustain polarity, and it not just plug in and out the pedal then will resolve the issue. And i tried with both pedal input, same issue, before i shoot this video i already tried all the method. I also did show to Yamaha Malaysia about this issue and they agreed that this is an issue. If you watch the full video you should be able to understand the situation that only sx920 behave that way and my sx900 are not, i also do try with the rest of the S series including my old s970. I work as one of the big MI retailer in Malaysia and i was lucky enough to be able to try all the Yamaha models, and i can conclude that the new PSR-SX920 suffer from this issue

@@beloncfy what i know in the past, Arranger market are consider very small compared with Synth market. And user worldwide are consider lesser. AND there are many user facing issue but not report to Yamaha. So Yamaha dont think there is an issue. That is the reason i make this video, hopefully more user will aware of this and Im pretty sure someone from Yamaha will watch this and take note for this issue. May i know what is your issue on you SX900? So far my SX900 are quite reliable and only 1 small bug (BSOD (Yamaha version) duringMultitrack recording)

Hi Belon (amwilburn here) ok but the same issue exists on Genos 2 and Korg PA5x as well (and it's actually worse on the PA5x)... so would you thumb down both companies? Especially since the PA5x has been out for 2.5 years and nobody else has even noticed yet. And the sx900 *doesn't* have this sustain issue (neither does G1). Anyway, please let me know your sx900 issues (you have my forum contact as well); maybe I can find some of the workarounds? But yeah I said on the forums 2 years ago, there likely won't be any more os updates coming, and there weren't. :1

@@MarkWilburnTLM Nice to see you here Marks, Yamaha arranger keyboard is great and I would prefer it instead of Korg due to missing the registration feature. However their support and development teams I believe much weaker than other software companies such as Apple and Microsoft, they can't even resolve some of the long living bugs persist across few generation of PSR keyboards. Yes you are right, many reviewers just mention about the Good for this model, but no one has mention the Bad. My opinion, other than this issue the rest is pretty OK but due to this issue it makes SX920 far from perfect, lets pray Yamaha will fix this issue ASAP

You should be aware that Dennis is the first one to notice this problem that's actually been around for 2.5 years; this happens on Korg PA5x and Genos 2 (since G2, sx920 and sx720 share the same OS, most likely the sx720 has this issue as well). There are 2 workarounds on G2 and sx920 (keep holding the keys, the sound will continue, or use the sustain panel button, which is lame, I know). I've yet to figure out any workaround on the PA5x

I''ve found out all the reviewers who do not reveal this problem are either the ones who RECEIVED the keyboard for FREE or the businesses that are selling this instrument No wonder they won't reveal its disadvantages.

I don't know about PSR-S670, but on my DGX-670 it doesn't have that problem. Main Voice CFX, Layer Voice Strings, and play with Pedal Down. When I turn off Layer Voice, the CFX continues to resonate.

Yes I understand the importance of sustain while changing the voices....... this is happening because of the cross fade introduced in this model to smoothen the the transition while changing the voices .... Earlier models transition while changing the voices were not smooth , there use to be a sudden change in the volume... I don't know if you experienced that sudden jerk while changing the voices in the earlier models .... that has been fixed by introducing the cross fade. Well I am not from yamaha .... Regards

The cross fade that you mention is only for Portamento function. Yamaha still not implement Smooth Sound Transition on their Arranger yet unlink MODX or Montage. So when you change voices with different DSP and volume setting, it will still have the "hiccups" effect. So its not because of the Cross Fade thingy. Cheers

Hey i bought this Yamaha SX series and i just want to know how do we use break in styles?it just add fill in on styles rather than a cymbal and pause as in korg arrangers ..As a ex korg user its something i miss alot in this keyboard

I feel you, im a Korg user before and their break is basically useless, only kick and cymbal (But they fix this on their PA5X). For Yamaha Break you can use it as a Break (On 1st beat) or you can treat it as a fill in (2nd beat onwards)

My playing method involve lots of registration and my voice part keep cutting out when i switch even i hold my sustain. Maybe some user will say "that is because of the DSP and Effects that is why there is a voice cut" but that is not the case here. I have tried to remove DSP and Effects but still sounds cuts out once you switch off the voice parts

Which version of software is installed on the keyboard in the video, there is a huge update file on the Yamaha website, think it is V 1.10. I bought a 920 yesterday with the update V 1.10 installed and am wondering if this created the sustain problem as surely, it would have come to be known of if it existed on the original version 1.01 and if known of it would have been fixed by now. I also have a problem with a swell pedal not working, no response to volume when operating the pedal.

@@DennisBuCS As I have said in an earlier post, I had this problem on 920 and it is now fixed. I had sustain assigned to the volume pedal and expression assigned to the sustain pedal. Go into menu on keyboard and double check you have the foot pedal assigned correctly .

This is essentially a slightly stripped down Genos1, so *none* of the newest G2 tech is on the sx920. But almost everything from G1 is, plus the addition of S.Art+ using the same S.Art partials from G1, letting you play those voices in new ways.

There's no revolution reveb from G2 (really, nothing new from G2) on the sx920. Couldn't find any Ambience feature on it either?

Its very different compare to the previous model, its not close to a Genos 2 (a flagship is still a flagship) but SX920 are really close to it. This are the real issue and its only on the new SX720 and SX920. In Malaysia, there are LOTS of user (and i believe other country) played like how i play. So i dont know why you will think that is OK to accept this. @@LeighWilbraham if you play on the previous PSR even Genos, the previous note that is under sustain, it wont cut the sound off. Only the new SX and Genos 2 behave that way. For the past Yamaha Arrangers, this has been open a new way of playing to make sure the previous note and previous voice decay smoothly when switching to a new voice. And i dont think Yamaha purposely want to make it that way, it just doesnt make sense. And Yamaha Malaysia service team also agree that this is an issue. That clearly shows im not wrong on this
