Great video, I have that same problem and I just drag my finger on the plate to keep it from snapping into place. Thank you!

I've since fixed that, but it did work fine that way. Thanks for watching.

I replaced both the ball bearing and a softer spring, and it did help a lot, but did not alleviate the issue. I noticed that the case feader slams the empty case into the plate. It does show sharply this also causes powder spillage. Now, if it does not do so, then the empty case will not fit cleanly into the resizing die. To solve this issue what I have done and works 100% of the time is to grab a hold of the charged cartridge case as it rotates with a bullet between my thumb and my forefinger, ready to insert it into the case. I then, with the rest of my fingers, grab a hold of the charge case, and use the pressure from my left hand to slow down the rotation of the plate so that it does not stop abruptly, but eases into its station. Therefore, there is no sharp instantaneous stoppage of the rotating plate. What then happens is that your left hand and fingers becomes a break for slowing down the rotating disc acid comes to a stop. Doing this will keep the disc from a sudden stop if you use your left hand as the break. No problems. Just reload it 1000 9 mm and did not have one grain of powder spill. It does slow down production a little bit, but you still save time and having to disassemble the plate to clean up the spent powder.

I'm looking at getting into reloading (when I can find some powder), and I'm still trying to find the balance between precision and convenience. videos like this help a lot. thank you for taking the time to make this.

Thanks for watching. Yea, powder has been scarce for about 2 years now. The rifle powder is out there, pistol powder is still extinct.

Nice job on the demo Video! I am really pleased it worked as well for you as it did for me. My headaches are pretty much history. BUT... I do have some creature comforts in the works to go along with this. Coming to a mailbox near you soon. Thanks, Mark

After attempting several soutions, I just use my finger (while I place the bullet) to stop that snap--evaluation one step in the process is a little shortsited, unless you are going to just fill the cases with powder. There is a video out there showing the full technique. I did not but my spring.

Go to ACE Hardware and look through the spring assortment. Pick up a couple softer springs.. at 25 cents each it makes a cheep fix.

Good work, just watch to insure the shell plate rotates enough and not too much as time goes along to prevent alignment issues. I had the same issue with both a Dillon SDB and the 650. The 550 of course is manual indexing giving you control. (A press that keeps the shell plate, shell holder stationary and rotates the die head/holder eliminates that problem.)
@frankw72666 жыл бұрын
I've been running a 650 for almost 25 years with the stock detent ball & spring, and have never have powder spill issues. To put it in driving terms, the loose nut is the one behind the wheel... if you're getting spilled powder, you're slamming the handle too hard on the upstroke, causing the cases to jar around. You can still go fast and be very smooth with this machine.

have you the same problem with powder funnel sticky. Are you resolv this problem?

How many coils did you end up cutting off the spring ? Can you measure the spring height with your calipers so we can get some idea of how much to remove. Great video and thanks for taking the time.

replace the standard 9.5mm ball bearing with a 9mm ball bearing and you don't need to clip a spring. McMaster Carr has a two-pack on the 9mm.

I just ran a 1000 rounds of 9MM 115 FMJ with no appreciable powder issue and I have not cut the spring or used a plastic ball bearing. I use a low volume powder Hodgdon Tite Group. I love Unique and use it for larger cases 45ACP but the Tite Group is my powder of choice for 9MM

A bunch of guys at my club has the XL 650 and they say the issue is now resolved by Dillon. Havent assembled my machine yet but I hope they are right.

So won’t that cause problems with it indexing consistently?
@G56AG11 жыл бұрын
When trying to cut a spring like that, or any hard wire, the closer the wire is to the hinge on the cutters the better and easier they will work, Cutting action is poor out towards the end of the jaws, as you experienced with your first cut, you have less leverage and more flex in the jaws of the cutter.

Well the problem is pretty universal not just with this machine but I am actually pretty excited that there is fix with Dillon now I have to find if there is solution for my Hornady, otherwise I'll be replacing with Dillon. P.S. Once you experience progressive you'll never go back to single stage loading.

Dillon will tell you to cut the spring. I ordered a new spring, ball and bearing kit on eBay that solves this same problem.
