I cannot emphasize how much you just saved my life. My friends and I spent an entire summer last year shooting an independent film, and spent all winter editing and doing ADR. I was doing music this summer in hopes to be done by fall. The file got corrupted. Our morale was at an all time low for about a month, now. On an impulse, after having accepted defeat, I searched "corrupted file external hard drive" and clicked on your video. I'm in tears. Thank you, so much.

I bought an inateck external clone usb docking station & when i placed my HDD in it on my Win 10 new build it was acting crazy, the explorer window would pop up & disappear, making it hard to access my files, then i got that dreaded "corrupt & unreadable" error msg & my heart dropped. did google search & came across the link tot his video. follow his instructions in CMD & then I placed HDD in my old docking station & it pops up & all folders & files restored & appear. @@sujatabehede6088 I might be late, but I believe if you right click on the 'command prompt' thumbnail and then chose 'run as administrator' you should be able to access it. At least, I think that is what your issue is.

Your computer has a sticking letter on the keyboard (sticking, 'cause you let a tiny amount of sauce drip on it ) and you take it to the computer store to have them check it, they call you, and when you pick it up the guy says; "It's running great now - we had to wipe the hard drive"..

Thanks for this, it's really a quick and easy fix! For anyone who encounters an "access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges" message, just close Command Prompt and open it again as an administrator (right click -> run as admin).

If you still have this problem try this method I tried. I used this guy's technique and it did not work. Then I just thought of an idea. I right clicked on the disk which was corrupted or unreadable, then i clicked properties. Then tools and error checking. I checked errors it found some and to fix it the computer needed to restart at the startup it did the same thing as in the guys cmd window. And thank goodness it all works now. Try it, it may help you, I hope. If you still need help.

@@luckitafosho You have to mybe dismount the disc,possibly? Or unlock it. I am not shore. Run cmd as admin write chkdsk /f e: (e stands for your disk name you want to fix) then hopefully you will be prompted to dismount and schedule chkdsk on next restart, press Y and press enter. Then restart the computer. If this does not work just try searching in forums for an answer. This is how I would deal with the problem. Hope it goes well. *GOOD LUCK*

Oh lordy..have you tried googling the problem. I guess i was lucky as it worked for me. Im no expert but somehow your drive is being recognised as a different file system. There is some recovery software available but the free versions only allow you to recover a limited amount of data. Useful to check at least that your data is still on the disk. I tried 'EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard' it at least comforted me that my data was still there. I wish i could help you more but im an amateur when it comes to this stuff !

Super easy to get around this. Run command prompt as admin. Just right click on command prompt in the start menu and select "Run as Administrator". This will give it elevated privileges to run check disk.
