"I'm a professional, i dont need hearing" in 20 years he will be saying to his grandson "what you say mijo, gotta talk louder, grandpa cant hear good" LOL... Took a few generations of workers to go from no resperatators and protections, even things like Fall protections on sky scrapers and stuff, and goggles and other PPE saying no man works with that stuff, to now, almost everyone does it... Born in 84 here and i'm on that cusp of Screw that junk and you need to protect yourself... lol... worked in manufacturing lines when i was younger and required saftey glasses and hearing and other thingsevery day and hated it.... but OSHA forced.. ugh... now the older I get and use PPE and see things like if i'm grinding, all the crud and stuff inside the filters that I would have breathed into my lungs... holy crap thats eye opening... really makes you think... and you see the generations of Black Lung from coal mining and just breathing stuff all day and deaf from no plugs, and things like that...

I started watching your channel back in 2020. I have learned so many things by watching your videos. Over the summer I finally able to put what I learned into practice. I switched all the cheap plastic downspout extenders over to PVC. Since I live on a hill and the longest run was under a deck I did not have to dig at all. The difference is crazy. I never use to see any rain out of the extenders unless it was a super heavy rain. Now we get a light shower and the water is pouring out. Thank you for you great educational videos!

I am glad you solved the problem and you always do quality work. I just wish it was more aesthetically pleasing, like keep dirt and plants in front of the house, regrade this dirt, install a long channel drain 10 feet out in front of the house to catch water from the driveway and directed to a sump pump to pump the water to the street, rather than having a huge slab of concrete directly in front of the house. Just my two cents. Maybe my idea would not work.o
@GCFD
@GCFD Жыл бұрын
Those are extremely valid points to discuss. In this situation where the driveway is sloping down into the house I need a 100% solution that is fail proof. Concrete does deliver that, where a drain can clog, pumps can clog and fail, or the power can go out. Even considering all the looks and possible solutions, I go with the fool proof one. They can add potted plants or furniture to help improve the appearance if needed. Thanks Thomas for sharing your thoughts!

Like John said above. When I lived in Colorado you can't add enough rebar, but they just don't use it here because of our climate (no real frost line), subsoils (no bentonite), and other local conditions (no subsurface water). It's Weird to not see rebar when you're used to it I know.

The two steps leading to the front door are now way different heights, increasing the chance someone will trip. Did you consider ripping out the step to make it a single step up or at least ramping the concrete up to that lower step (so that it was just a single step up)? Personally I would have ripped out the whole ramp and landing and re-poured a larger landing, but understand the homeowner probably didn’t want to spend that money.

That’s a clothes dryer vent
@Sophie_Emilia_von_Zerbst
@Sophie_Emilia_von_Zerbst Жыл бұрын
@@terryfoust4036 But why would they choose such a small diameter pipe? Wouldn't that be a bottle neck? Dryer vents I have seen in the US are big - you can easily put a fist in there. Also why is it steaming? Do they dry their clothes at like 100°C, so the water just boils off? xD ...ofc it could be cold out, but it doesn't look like it, and laying concrete in winter wouldn't make too much sense either...
@GCFD
@GCFD Жыл бұрын
That's the vent from a natural gas furnace in the crawl space.
@Sophie_Emilia_von_Zerbst
@Sophie_Emilia_von_Zerbst Жыл бұрын
@@GCFD That makes sense in what I see. By "vent" you mean exhaust pipe? As I don't know why a gas furnace would need a vent-vent to dissipate steam. If yes, I have a serious question to that home owner: "But why?!?" I don't know, is that an American thing to do? At least in Germany (and probably whole Europe) an exhaust stack has to end above the roof of the building it is installed in. That's to better dissipate the exhaust into the atmosphere and avoid possible entry into the home with all resulting consequences. Not to mention that our gas furnace exhaust pipe still fits my arm. That in mind, I'm almost impressed that the exaust pipe didn't end inside the crawl space...

I can't help but feel a drain basin at the lip of the concrete to channel water from the driveway inside pipe to the lower area where the gutter water drains out would stop erosion and looks better. Looks so much better... that house, the years of errosion and people moving dirt around not understanding it will accelerate the errosion of the house, all the yards around was sloping to the house! wow... yeah, after this work you and your guys did, no more issues i'd bet! that swell and valley of driveway turned out good to slope water away and follow the drieway.... Though, why not pipe uthe middle downspout before pourin the slab and then do a sanatary T to pick up the next corner and then kick that down? Just left to have the new driveway carry it away? Personally i hate when sidewalks and stuff around my house shows errosion from water coming off the roof and stuff, where my old house built in 84, you can see the walkways, where teh water came off the roof, hit the sidwalks at the 1/2 mark and so from half over, it was rough, and the other side was smoother and not etched... lol. seeing the power of water! no gutters... we live in Phoenix where it rains like 10 days a year, haha.... so gutters for a 15 minute storm, not really a top priority here. But my new house i had built in 2019, we have paver driveway and paver walkways... the pavers going from my front door to my driveway, the roof has already etched the pavers pretty bad... but have a 3800sqft roof and the shape of the front, basically about 1/3 of the roof water all works it was above the front door, so when its a good monsoon massive storm with flash flooding, the ammount of water comming down ifront of my front door is absolutely insane... so its etching the softer pavers faster. So I do need to invest in some gutters... I want to find a company that will do seamless gutters where they roll and make them out of a single sheet onsite, but not a lot of gutter companys out here, lol.

Our gutter guys do the seamless. I have a video coming up where I showcase the gutter work quite a bit.

I like the drainage-motivation in the cement crew. Drone-FYI: mine fell out of the sky at battery-cycle 190, those polymer batteries are only rated for 200 cycles. If yours loses signal & performs a RTH on an over 150-cycle battery then trash that battery. I'm kinda wondering why there isn't a drainage-attorney on YT who can analyze law violations of developed-watersheds. Especially given the 4.5 flash-flood threats in my territory.

I think the end of the swale, could have ended in a drain box (catch basin ?), and then piped to a lower part of the back yard ?

Where are the damp proof membranes in these houses as building up the dirt would appear to bridge it. Obviously you do this on every job so I’m sure it is fine. Just curious
