The non-trivial answer is x = -9log_3(2). I am glad that know that this is another example of how a simple change of base can show a non-trivial answer. This is similar to the Lambert W function. I could be wrong.

Stanford University entrance exam: 6 = 216^8^(3x⁻¹); x =? 216^8^(3x⁻¹) = (6³)^(2³)^(3/x) = 6^3[2^(9/x)] = 6^1, 3[2^(9/x)] = 1, log{3[2^(9/x)]} = 0 log3 + (9/x)log2 = 0, (9/x)log2 = - log3; x = - 9log₃2 = - 5.678 Answer check: x = - 9log₃2 = - 5.678: 216^8^(3x⁻¹) = 216^8^(- 9/5.678) = 6; Confirmed The calculation was achieved on a smartphone with a standard calculator app Final answer: x = - 9log₃2 = - 5.678
