Ken has literally everything a character can want. He has an amazing dp, he has ground to air combos so easily, he builds meter so fast he can use 4 level 1s, he has a cancel move, plus on everything. Tell me this isn’t Capcom’s favorite character without telling me this is Capcom’s favorite character

Ken is clearly a broken character, to me, he's what early Luke was in SFV : too much of everything pretty much without any flaw. In fact, his cr.MK probably is what makes him godlike, because he can make a mistake, he can whiff something, but it doesn't matter, because it's so fast and has so much reach than it suffs any punish you may attempt, you're like "OK, now it's my turn", and in fact, it is, but no, cr.MK, cancels into something else... Ken needs a nerf on his cr.MK, or if not that, a nerf in the overall damage input, because it may be OK to have everythikng for every situation, but Ken gets too much reward, the corner carry, the damage, easy corner mix-ups, you can litteraly die just for pressing jab mid-screen lol

I'm really bored of Ken. I really hope the community collectively gets really good at fighting Ken, or else SF6 will become Ken Fighter 6. All the new DLC characters to be announced will become Ken variants: Violent Ken, Robot Ken, Female Ken, Chimp Ken, Ken but he's a dog, Upside-Down ken, Moustache Ken, Wheelchair Ken, Kendrick Lamar, Kenneth Haight Limgrave Heir. The corner carry combos aren't that optimal though. Ken gives up some good damage when he instead opts for the corner carry. The corner can back fire on him if he opponent guesses right on the next set play. I've seen so many matches where a Ken will corner carry then immediately get put into the corner himself.

Just Drive Impact Jinrai Cancel or Dragon Kick. There is only one safe Jinrai Kick cancel and it is the mk version into lk... and it can only be safe on block with a heavy normal cancel because it is a block string. So basically, anything that Ken do after a Jinrai kick is unsafe and a Punish counter for Drive Impact beside a single occurance.

Against honda you just parry his headbutt on reaction. Buttslam is harder cause he can mess with the timing, but go in the lab and see if your char has a good anti air or air-to-air that beats it. You can also drive impact if it looks like its going to land in front of you.

jinrai kick is somehow able to deal with(still not easy to do, you need to focus, train your muscle memory, no 100% success rate) if you get familiar, need a lot of practice dragonlash is another story, since we have too many things to take care of in the real fight, this move can help ken gain 1~2 chances per round, meterless. Corner carry ability of ken is insanely good, I prefer to take the throw if his dragonlash or drive rush got me.

Jinrai kick typically gets beaten by DI except in rarer instances (Heavy jinrai). Dragonlash is super reactable with jab or DI.

@@computervision557 Kazunoko jabs him out of the dragonlash 100% of the time. I've fought people online who DI me every time. I jab or DI people out of dragonlash most of the time. The animation is unique, and Kens typically only do it a certain distance away to skip neutral. It's telegraphed.

Might be an online timing thing honestly. Otherwise if they are committing to doing any of the jinrai kick follow ups then DI should beat them because of the gap in the kicks. But if they don't do a follow up they will recover in time to counter DI you because DI has a long start up. You can also parry as an alternative instead of using DI. Or hell, you could even just continue to block. All versions of Jinrai are minus on block. The safest one is the heavy version and it's still only -2. All of the follow ups are also minus on block. Parry would beat any high low mix up from the low or the overhead.

A lot of situations with Ken are pretty much a game of rock, paper, scissors. If you guess right he dies. If he guesses right then you die. Ken can't afford to be predictable because a lot of his stuff has a counter if he is predictable. This is why I can't see him as a top 5 character. So much of his stuff is a gamble despite him being pretty strong on paper.

I think ken is really strong but I’m constantly surprised at how little luke is played. One universal tier list thing across what seems like every regions pro players is Luke is top tier just like Ken. I personally think Luke is tied with a few for the best overall character in the game.. but outside of tournament players few really play the guy. In tournaments he’s everywhere, TNS last tourney had more Lukes than anything. Ranked not so much Why do you think that is? He has everything you’d want. Amazing damage, amazing corner carry just like Ken, throw loops, amazing projectile, amazing super 1 and 3, advancing buttons that make his neutral kinda feel braindead, lots of TC, lots of easy confirms. Cannot emphasize the forward advancing buttons enough, he feels like an NRS character like JP does except he’s a shoto Kinda went on a tangent there I just don’t get why Luke isn’t more popular. I get why ken is, he’s top tier and he’s really cool in this game aesthetics and play style wise

Im not sure honestly, i feel like stylistically hes boring as shit, i mean, hes an aggressive “fire” character. Very outdone in every-way in every media form as a characters design. Luke i think people dont like because 1; hes a semi zoner, which takes a bit more brain than kens constant plus frame buttons, and 2; people didnt like luke as a character in almost ANY way in SF5. Luke isn't popular because he is not cool looking, his MMA style moves are boring to look at, his fireball godlike as it is is not as cool as a hadoken. Not to mention he is a relatively new character introduced at the end of SFV lifespan, Ken has always been the most popular character since early SF series. His flame moves, his flashiness and good looks are always fan favorite. Heck, even Rashid is way cooler to look and play than Luke. And many who play Luke plays modern mode with him, and it annoys the fuck out of everyone just because of how good it is. You cannot even throw a fireball at him from full screen since he can punish you on reaction with his OD fireball. In mid screen his lvl1 and 3 supers goes throw fireball and punishes most things, his lvl2 also beats most moves upclose. No to mention he has DP and great normals. He is literally the best character on modern. VesperArcade literally rank him as the only S tier if you are playing him modern. Ken, Juri, Deejay, Guile and Classic control Luke are A tier in comparison.

@@SeniterYT A tip for you, Ken is one of the few characters that has no normals that are plus on block. That means after blocking his first hit, his turn and his pressure is over. You can just mash jab after blocking the first hit. Just make sure his first hit is not a meaty like on your wakeup or off a Drive rush that gives him extra frames. Also, if you are having problems with his s.mk and s.hk pokes, just Drive impact that shit, they all have more total frames than Drive impact's startup. That means your DI will always catch and punish them if they hit you after you do DI. Do it enough times and they will stop doing s.mk and s.hk, then suddenly you realize his footsie game is kinda weak and easier to deal with. Ken's only real threat is his corner throw loop, and he has good corner carry to create that situation. Just learn to deal with corner pressure properly and you'll eventually beat him. Ken is only top tier on paper and on theory. His footsie and pressure game isn't strong. Which is why despite the large pool of Ken players, little to none make it to the top in tournaments. Juri is the real monster.
