I have to wonder if “Everyone Knows That” turned up in some of those cheap toy phones you’d get in the mid 90s to early 2000s. They’d play these horrifically compressed songs (usually 90s Europop). They would often be made in China and see worldwide distribution. That could explain why people from all corners seem to recall having heard the song in their childhood. The compression/distortion could also explain why the memories are always hazy. EDIT: Turns out it was most assuredly NOT from a toy phone, but in fact from an adult film called 'Angels of Passion'.
@Jazzz_min_

Didn't that also happen with that butterfly song? So many people insist they'd heard it on a toy phone. I think that's a super likely explanation.

Not just toy phones but there were these tiny little disk like things that would play like 1 min or so of a song. They were called disk jams or something. They marketed it like cards? Sort of, but they never caught on.

@@Jazzz_min_ It's funny, that butterfly song is nostalgic to me because a lot of UK Happy Hardcore artists from the 90's made remixes of it, due to it being a song they heard frequently on toy phones as children. Lmfao

It really makes you think, how much human information has been lost to time. Like, the great library of alexandria, obscure writers who didnt put their books in an archive. Anything pre-internet has a totally real chance of just being completely lost forever, without anyone knowing it ever existed.

I'm 7 months late, but I'm compelled to say that I SO AGREE with you. I didn't like Bear in the Big Blue House, partly because I hated the sniffing thing. It just made me want to cringe and shrink away from the screen when his nose filled it up and it felt like he was in my personal space. In hindsight, that might have been a symptom of my ASD that wasn't recognised at the time.

the BoC tape is similar to Kraftwerk's "6 hours of demos and unfinished tracks" from 1991. the VHS tape is not available anywhere online. the only person that owns it is the furry youtuber "Artemis Wishfoot", who upon questioning him at Anthrocon, said he bought it at the Brixton Academy concert in June 1991. I heard it at a room party, and here's a list of the tracks that I could identify: 1: The Man Machine (1977 pitch tape) 2: Autobahn Tech Demo (possibly late 1973/early 1974) 3: Music Non Stop (1983 Demo, titled "Echoes", a reference to the Pink Floyd song) all of the other 142 tracks are completely unidentified or are so different from the final versions that they are unidentifiable.

Hey! Sorry if it's too late. I searched up the Artemis Wishfoot guy, (god that's a weird name). And, I couldn't find any video about this tape. Would it still be possible to contact him to release it digitally? The reason is, I'm very interested in the search for "Everyones Know That" lost media song. It could be one of thoses on it. Again, I apologise for the disturbance.

I'm so intrigued about the Bear in the Big Blue House live entry because one of the boys who was cast for the US stage show was a primary school classmate of mine, and he'd been gone from school during the tour. I'm pretty sure his mother went along with him too, and she is a dance instructor who used to teach our primary school class, and also still helps out my former high school for my sister's dance shows. I'm so curious if she either has or might know someone from that time who has access to the footage of at least one show, since you'd think a parent would want to keep a video of their child performing onstage (unless NDAS were involved or it's just old footage since it was the early 2000's). Hopefully there'll be a chance to ask her at some point about it!

Unknown track #3 reminds me a little bit of those muzak tapes from the 70s and 80s, but slowed down and/or had the pitch/tone adjusted. It sounds pretty eerie off the bat, but if you speed it up a bit it doesn't actually sound as spooky. I collect old tapes and will occasionally stumble upon what I think is a blank, but actually contains audio - which I usually can't identify. I recently picked up a "blank" 8-track tape which turned out to have a bunch of instrumental music on it. I posted the sound clip to lostwave actually, and while the album/songs themselves could not be identified exactly (not enough traction), the general consensus was that it was likely a copy of a muzak tape used in malls/stores around that era (also since 8-track tapes loop and don't need to be rewound or flipped, this makes sense given the context). The kind of instrumentation in track #3 reminds me a lot of the contents of that tape, so that is my possible guess!

I have a possible piece of lost media. It was a hot wheels game that you could play on your phone, i don’t know about other platforms than mobile. It was a 2d like racing game that was like those old car parking games you would play on the web when you were a kid or something, with the iconic top down camera view but instead of parking cars, you are racing hot wheel cars. The control scheme was some sort of wheel on the left side of the screen, and then the pedals (either had both brake and gas or just gas my memory is fuzzy). It was quite old, roughly from 2013-2014 or something. You collected hot wheel cars by completing levels i think. I think there were boosters on certain tracks that made your car go faster, and there may or may not have been power-ups to screw over your opponent’s. I think i played it on an iphone 5 when i was little. I downloaded on the app store so it clearly was not some web browser game (or maybe it was, web browser games can become apps you can get on phones). I forgot the name of the game, it was like hot wheels racing among those lines or something different than that.

It was one of those videos like Super Mario Logan where some kid with a camcorder was playing with toys and using them as a means to make skit videos with. Channels like mariomario8989 were probably one of the oldest examples of this sort of early KZbin content, and this guy was definitely one of the old heads as well. One of the distinguishing features of his skits was that he was using the SA2 figures of Sonic and Shadow with the bendable rubber arms (unlike channels like Sonic Toast which used the Resaurus Sonic Adventure 1 figures in a lot of instances).

You ask at the beginning of this and other videos why lost media is so attractive to some people. Honestly, for me it's just the exploration factor. I'm an explorer by nature. Always have been. I love urbex mostly for the sake of seeing something most people have forgotten and won't get to see. I guess it's the same feeling lost media gives me. I'm not into the vast majority of the actual media itself, though and that's fine. That's not the point for me. Just being a part of the exploration is all I really need. That why I love this channel and others like it.
@namegoeshere8998
@namegoeshere8998 Жыл бұрын
I think it's the mystery of it being lost rather than the "exploration" as you say. For example, there are many thousands of songs and artists who have 0 to a couple hundred plays on spotify. But nobody seeks these artists out, even though you'd be hearing something rare and unique that nobody else has heard. Why not? Why do these artists go ignored, but "lost media" songs attract a ton of attention? Because it's readily available, anyone can get to it easily. Because there's no mystery behind it, no wondering where it came from. One day, however, some of the artists will probably blow up in popularity because they might vanish, because there will be like a few hundred people who heard them before they did, and maybe someone will have a song downloaded. Then everyone will suddenly be desperate to find more. It's just human nature IMO, we want what we can't have, what we don't understand.

loved this! I've become a lost media enthusiast and while I haven't really made an effort to join any hunt I've tried before finding some lost media I'm aware from spanish-speaking youtube channels. Still as you mentioned it is really satisfying when a lost media case is solved! Wishing these will be found someday too

so glad you're making those unknown tracks more known, i'm a huge boc fan too and SxT is one of my favorite things by them. i especially love the first one, it reminds me of 90s tracker music. I should also let you know about a possible lead regarding the third unknown song ("thank you for not smoking"), it's most likely / definitely a slowed down arrangement of this Italian song "Non passa più" by Ernesto Bonino (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIKze4aYa5Wpock), with BoC adding some synth strings and the eventual Aquarius / Slave to the Rhythm mashup remix later on in that sequence. The third unknown song is basically less lost media and more of a lost sample, as its something BoC more than likely heavily modified.

On man the bear in the big blue house brings back memories. I remember going to see it on stage when I was little. Being so young I can’t remember much information about it tho. So no idea if I seen the one mentioned above, or one of the other two shows listen on its wiki. They all 3 took place a few years within time of each other

Wow, had this video in the background so wasn’t looking, but physically flinched when you said ‘How to Make the Cruelest Month’, because wow that’s such a unique title/phrase. Unfortunately I can’t remember how I know of it, but my best guess is seeing it in a video store? It came out the year I was born so I’m unsure why it’s familiar. This comment isn’t really helpful sorry but take it as my contribution to algorithm activity lol, I love your content a lot

After hearing the "everything knows that" song and the music from the societas x tape I had a realization. Theres a sort of liminality to these lost songs like "the most mysterious song" and "fallen king" They are vaguely familiar but I have never heard them prior to hearing about them.

If i remember correctly, people think "Everyone Knows That" is from a commercial because the OP claims that he waa learning how to transfer audio files from video recordings of the TV tk the computer. They also found a tone signiture, but theyre not sure if its actually from the TV, the song, or just irrelevant background noise.

You have fantastic taste in music; I haven't even checked out the description of the video, and I know that there are a lot of windows96 and Gavriel songs here. What a perfect choice of music for this type of content; very surrealistic and mysterious, which characterizes lost media

i have always thought that lost media was such an interesting topic, and it's very intriguing how something from media can just suddenly disappear and only linger in the memories of a select few people. I hope every piece mentioned here gets found soon! also, does anyone know the music that starts at 21:05? I've been trying to find it lately

It's always crazy to me when Lost Media KZbinrs reference LMW articles that I created (I created the article for Bear in the Big Blue House, Welcome to Pooh Corner, Dumbo's Circus, and maybe a few others, but those are the ones I've seen KZbinrs I watch cite in their videos). Like imagine just casually watching lost media content on KZbin and seeing yourself being cited as a source

Kylie you always got the most interesting topics! I had no idea about Bear in the Big Blue House live and the WOWP pilot before! Also I know you just mentioned 2 times but WHAT Ned's Declassified had an alien ending?? I only watched that show sporadically because we didn't always have cable, so I wasn't really a fan... I think taken down YTPs are lost media, like a lot of king of the hill YTPs that were a big part of my childhood were taken down by fox and idek if some of the old poopers still have the files, and finding reuploads (if they even exist) is a real pain since the YTPs had very strange titles sometimes. Also when I found out about strangers by sinking ships it became a song I listened to a lot, I wish it wound up on spotify since it would be in my playlist in a heartbeat.

As soon as the song played it didn't feel like a song song. It felt like something that would play in an ad, or a bumper. Random music snippet bumpers are still popular on radio today.

idk why but out of all the years I've been into lost media "everyone knows that" intrigues me the most. I have no clue why, I personally think its a demo for a band on a casette that was never released and probably tossed that probably only one person had collecting dust in an attic OR it's a song made for a tv show so they wouldn't have to pay royalties for charting music and the reel was probably lost.
@talesofawhovian9690

There have been some intriguing theories speculating that the song could be a demo from Australian group Savage Garden. Lead singer Darren Hayes sounds strikingly similar to the singer of “Everyone Knows That” and he’s mentioned ‘hundreds and hundreds’ of demos that were sent to people prior to them getting signed. Tapes of unreleased content dating as early as 1994, and a fair share of the demos we do have available have this 80s sound to them. In addition, while these theories were spreading in the community, Darren Hayes himself randomly tweeted ‘Everyone Knows That’, which promptly caught folks’ attention. He eventually deleted it and hasn’t commented anything related to the matter yet, but he hasn’t denied it either like other debunked leads.
