The funny thing is in recent memory Ninjago did exactly this like a year prior to season 9's premiere. I mean it's a uncommon thing separating the good and the evil side and just resurrecting the evil side but it happens quite a few times.

I grew up with the comics and to be honest they are what made me love sombra as a character, I say this many times when I see someone in this community talks about sombra but, I will never accept that doucebag of a character from season nine as sombra. SPOILER REPLY for Season 10 comics: at least it was temporary. Cozy Glow was seen cracking (almost breaking free) from the statue with the rest of the legion of doom. The mane six et al would have tried to reform the three eventually...probably...maybe...

I like to belive the comics are semi-cannon, where they don't happen at the time their witen, my headcannon is that SOTCE takes place after season 10, spike wrote the comics in universe so he could have changed some detals like when the story took place.

Spike is also most likely an unreliable narrator anyway. Some events could have still happened in canon but they happened differently because either spike wasnt there and just heard about it or he has bad memory etc

Dont get me wrong comic sombra is awesome but Sombras popularity prior to the comics has always kinda baffled me, im convinced he was only popular because of his design and headcanons. Like the fanbase loves to crap on guys like Storm King yet these same people praise Sombra when that dude has even less personality then SK. He was the boba fett of mlp prior to IDW and its a shame his entire redemption was decanonized

If your going to switch up your channels focus I would do it gradually so that there is still mlp content but also the new content you want to do mixed in. That way we can have mlp content for longer because there won’t be as much of it at one time and you can still experiment with whatever you wanna do next. Idk though I’m sure you thought all this out so at the end of the day do whatever you think will be best I’m sure it will work out great best of luck I’ll be watching 👁️👁️🫵🏻
