The nib here is what's doing most of the work (the name is in the video.) It’s beautiful isn’t it? It has to do with the viscosity of the ink. There are additives in the ink to allow it to do so, fountain pen ink that is. They have lubricants in them. So these things help almost create a membrane of ink of sorts across the tines as they spread and retract. It’s a beautiful thing. Cheers

Well, it depends on the nib. You need to use either flex nibs on fountain pens or calligraphy nibs. Not all nibs are flexible and can do this. If you try this on the wrong nib, you will spring the tines and destroy the nib. So you weren’t taught wrong necessarily. Those pens you were writing with were probably stiffer writing nibs to do your math, English, reports, etc. So is that regard they were correct. So if you’re interested in doing what they did in this video, check out flex nibs at reputable sellers. I’ve bought some from Fountain Pen Revolution, The GoodBlue Pen Company, Goulet Pens, Goldspot Pens, and Jet Pens for a start. Here is a link to The Fountain Pen Network. @@bjaime7853 the one flex nib that I’ve used that does flex pretty much like this is from The Good Blue Pen Company. And they have a feed to match. Keeps up with the nib and ink really well. Has a polymer feed which is interesting. And I think it may be half the price for The Good Blue R615 pen over this one. But I’m sure it’s a great pen. I don’t own it and I’ve never had the opportunity to use one. Cheers

Its called “capillary action”. That’s essentially how a fountain pen operates and how the tines on a pen nib work.
