Take a look back at some of the activity at CSX's Spartanburg Yard one afternoon in 1988. First the yard crew is shown switching the NS interchange. Then, they head to the North end of the yard with a covered hopper before putting off for the day. Next, we see a coal train departing as another loaded train waits for a relief crew to be called. The 4th unit a U36C, which was originally a Clinchfield unit, was smoking pretty badly leaving the yard. The final shots show the power on the other coal train, the yard power and a couple of cabs sitting on the Cab track.

One thing to always think about here is this scene can never be repeated again---the U-boats seen here have been retired and scrapped as well as the SD45 on the 2nd coal train, the 2 C30-7s are probably working somewhere in South America and the GP40, SD40-2s and SD45-2 are odds are still working for CSX but have been repainted. In addition, the cabooses are also gone and its a safe bet that todays coal drags are solid aluminum hoppers consists instead of mixed company hoppers. Its all gone

Unusual EOT on the coal train, probably a first generation design given the time

@DASCO2136 I'll have to catch a company coal drag for you of CSX. I bet many of the 6 digit coal hoppers are still in service from this video!

@@tommythomason6187 The U36C is a tricky one to differentiate from a C30-7 or a C36-7 because it has the same overhanging radiator so I totally umderstood how you misidentified it....
