great video karen. we have stone ditches about 8 foot in height a lot of maintenance at times with them. when the older generations were reclaiming the land there was a lot of stones so to get rid of them they built ditches in all the land. they looked the part. every year we do repairs and build new bits. there is now a shortage of big stones cost £150 for a 10 tonne load.

Good job Karen, I recommend getting a pile driver,I only bought one last year. Should have got it 30 years ago 🤣. Its not a great big heavy one. Far handier than the sledge and better for the stakes too
@jaakkoohable
@jaakkoohable Жыл бұрын
I second this recommendation! We do a lot of fencing work for the cattle, and the pile driver is the way to go. It is heavier than the sledge, but the overall effort is so much less, as it drives the posts down with it's own weight with two or three whacks, plus you don't need to aim or worry about butchering or missing the post.

You want to get hold of a fencing maul....its the mushroom headed sledge...like you we spent years using a normal one ..until freindly brought his over...it stops the top of the post splitting so much and better than using sledge on its side as it twists ...I also do alot with the hand post thumper ...and that's really good for giving a good wallop and not splitting the post...there is a knack but I drive in 6 inch posts with mine...as for wire..I totaly gave up on the electric wire ..or string or rope or tape...and use normal smooth wire..and a grippler on the end to tension it...if you add a bit on the post then gripple off that to your long length right it means you can always retension easily plus cut it and fix again so easily ...they do cost z little but the ease of use and tensioning makes it worth it....I wouldnt be without..and I'm a tight guy ..az for driving cattle...I wouldnt be without my alkathene pipe for blocking and extension of your hands...im wondering if you can get any environmental payments on that farm as it lends itself nicely..🤔...some of those hedges and wet areas are perfect...!!

You should get a hedge cutter attachment for that pole saw your dad's just bought as it would make short work of trimming behind and underneath the fence and stop it shorting out, fencing in the rain, your certainly more hardy than me as that's a nice day job lol It's stressful enough without moving cattle along roads without having to thinking about filming too. You did a great job as always Karen 👍

Hello from the great state of Texas! So question. Are all of your fields spread apart with roads between? Seems I am lucky to just have 2 fields (1 being 640 acres and the other being 800ish acres) that are just divided by a long barb wire fence. Moving is easy for me since the transit point is where the cattle get their water.
@karenmoynihanfarm
@karenmoynihanfarm Жыл бұрын
The main road (which would probably be a little side road in Texas) separates one lot of fields from the other. Most of our good land is on one side of that road and our rough land is on the other side but it does make moving a pain at times because I need extra help
