Hello Joe, Gift and David. I retired here a year and a half ago. I checked out Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand, and Thailand felt like home. It has good infrastructure, good medical, good food, affordable cost of living, great culture, and friendly people. I retied at 62 and have no regrets at all.

Well said brother! We are in the same boat (Medical, Infustructor, Safty, COLA).. I retired from the US ARMY 25 Yrs. HOOAH - Thank you for your service and DOD work. We moved from the Philippines after "trying" to live there for 5 years. We have a small home we built there ( so my wife will always have something when I pass away) like you you built something for your new bride. We chose Hua Hin as it have everything we were looking for. We spent 5 months in Bangkok - and its just not for us. The US is too expensive - though like you , we can afford to live there, but it would be tight and I couldnt live and travel as you do. Medical - We have TRICARE and it works great PLEASE HAVE PEOPLE ASK ME ABOUT TRICARE FOR LIFE AND TRICARE OVERSEA - I USE IT HERE IN THAILAND AND WOULD LOVE TO HELP OTHERS OUT - Stay blessed - continue to do your thing brother. Perhaps we could meet up someday- Kenny in Hua Hin

Joe, I love your thoughts on why you retired to Thailand. I've been travelling here regularly for about 15 years. After spending lots of time in BKK and Samui, I continue to be drawn to Hua Hin. While I'm not yet ready to retire (I'm 61), my transition to retirement superannuation is able to fund extended stays here. I am also fortunate enough to have a job that allows me to take leave without pay, each year. Thinking forward, I plan to retire when I have completed my dissertation (on Thai international schools) and been awarded my PhD.

We all have second thoughts 4:11 , ten years in India, ten in Mexico, fourteen in Thailand. India was my first choice, more beauty and culture and food. I needed to work so Thailand since 1971 was my choice. I'm an old heroin and hashish smuggler. A Canadian in Thailand.

Good people deserve a good life. Other people deserve the karma that comes with who they decide to be. All the stories about who when and how it all took place the past 6 years was very interesting to listen to. I think the answer to any question about what any of us decide to do is to just look at the results. All things have led you to where you are with the one you love who loves you back and that ain't no accident my friend. Both of you deserve the life you have and finding each other was a blessing to you both. Stay well and happy.

Joe: As I thought I understood, all land along the shoreline in Thailand is owned by the kingdom up to a certain distance from high tide. Since you previously owned a beach house, please explain how that works.
@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe77742 сағат бұрын
That is my understanding as well. I believe it is under the authority of the marine department. I believe it 12 meters from the shore line.

We talked to the builder and he said it’s 50 SQM. Maybe it looks bigger to you from the camera angle, when I’m standing out there it looks between 40-50 SQM

Would a wedding registry get around the tax issue? Just a suggestion.
@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe77742 сағат бұрын

We want to move to Thailand but they keep changing the tax laws. I read they are working on a new law that would tax all income, even outsude of Thailand?
@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe77742 сағат бұрын
Too early to know what the impact might be. Some countries, pensions, and social security may be exempt. Best to stay informed on official Thai Government websites that address Thailand’s new tax laws.

@@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774 Hi Joe. My wife and I have been in a holding pattern for now. We were waiting to see how everything from last years changes plays out but now I read they are proposing even more tax changes. Makes me sad but hopefully everything works out and we can make the move.
