Some of my favourite things - filmed in Austria and Germany

In June-July 2024, we visited Austria and Germany and I filmed and photographed some of the areas I've been interested in since I was a young boy growing up in the 60s.
This video/film was created whilst we spent time in Salzburg; the Austrian Lakes; the German and Austrian Alps, and various areas in Bavaria including Königssee, Berchtesgaden, with its story-book castles protruding out of dense forests; cowbells ringing in flower-filled meadows, and medieval walled towns. It was indeed an amazing time.
However, one area I have always wanted to go, is the amazing scenes that feature in the Rodgers & Hammerstein film, “The Sound of Music” - winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In Salzburg, one can be amazed with its jewel box of churches, abbeys, and domes. Everywhere you go, it's almost impossible to take in the scenery with its hilltop fortress; lavishly gilded palaces, concert halls where Mozart once performed, and of course, upon the Untersberg mountain range where Maria (Julie Andrews) had her twirling 'Sound of Music' debut.
There is far too much to include here, but we had the thrill of visiting Nonnberg Abbey and hearing the 'hairs-on-end' sound of the nuns chanting Gregorian chorales at one of Europe’s oldest working abbeys. And, you don’t have to be a die-hard fan of 'The Sound of Music' to discover the film locations with Fräulein Maria’s 'Do-Re-Mi', 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen', 'So Long, Farewell' and 'The Hills are Alive' etc., all of which can be done via 'The Original Sound of Music Tour Coach in Salzburg' [see: www.viator.com... ].
In this true-life story, Julie Andrews lights up the screen as Maria, a spirited young Austrian woman who leaves the convent to become a governess for Captain von Trapp’s (Christopher Plummer) seven children. Her charm and songs soon win the hearts of the children - and their father. The film is set in the late 1930s, and when the Nazi party invades Austria, the von Trapp family are forced to make a daring escape.
So do enjoy this short movie as I film in various areas, including the Mirabell Palace and Gardens, Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg's old town Residence Square, Hohensalzburg Fortress, the German-Austrian Alps, and so much more.

Beautifully done David - delighted you had such a wonderful time. I too know and love Austria/Bavaria and share your love of the film the Sound of Music - which I watch each year when it is shown on TV around Christmas. Beautifully filmed and accompanied by the wonderful music. Thank you!
