This is perfect tuning to my ear. Nothing sounds off, or slightly dissonant. Lovely!

This is fantastic! I'm glad there are still people out there who are still improving or developing new well temperament on their own. I am an undergraduate student studying in Australia. I am also improving and developing well temperament. I hope to communicate with you in the future.

really interesting tuning, and beautiful playing as always Cam! I wonder how some Scriabin would sound in this tuning?

@@camtaylormusic many great preludes, the Poemes are all top tier as well. and ofc any of the Sonatas, though they really get good after the 4th. Great playing!

Have you settled on a tuning table for this, or are you still in the experimentation/adjustment stage>?
@camtaylormusic4 ай бұрын
@@Lucius_Chiaraviglio this is a set tuning, though I haven't released the details yet (will be doing this soon after I get a few more performances up). All of the fifths are either pure or 1/7-pythagorean comma narrow, so see if you can find it yourself as a challenge! IIRC all major thirds are between 394.5c (just under 3/7-comma wider than 4:5) and 404.5c (1/7-comma narrower than Pythagorean). Similar parameters for minor thirds, the narrowest is 1/7-comma wider than Pythagorean, while the widest must be about 4/7-comma narrower than 5:6.

Very nice tuning. You can hear the keys drifting away from the initial C major home key much more noticeably here. The slight colour shifts are so much more noticeable than with Equal Temperament which is obviously scaled for homogenous sound. Would love to hear this tuned to A=430.5 - A=435
@camtaylormusic4 ай бұрын
@@EggMCMUFFIN-e4l my piano is in A440 and my harpsichord is usually at A415, though it also transposes by a half-step to basically 440. 430-435 is a slightly awkward range for me on these instruments, and I think I'd have to retune a few times to stabilise
@EggMCMUFFIN-e4l4 ай бұрын
@@camtaylormusic I tuned my piano down to 432hz not too long ago and it only took two tunings for it to hold stability. Tuned it to Young temperament. The harmonics were so much more harmonious and flavourful compared to 440hz, which with Equal Temperament adds to the bland flavour. It’s worth a try! Especially with this beautiful temperament you have displayed here!

@@EggMCMUFFIN-e4l Young is great, although I've played much more in Valotti's transposition/rotation. The Pythagorean thirds are not sticking out too much? I think after a while that the Pythagorean minor thirds/major sixths affected the sound even more than the major thirds/minor sixths. I teach on this piano and almost always use recordings in lessons, so I'm not moving it from 440, but I get you. Just wonder over a long period of time what the difference in reference pitch will do to the strings and frame, even if it's only a difference of 30-35c or so...

Oeh nice, what are you playing here?

@@milo182 nothing prepared, just pretty free improv jumping around a few keys and tonalities, and at the end hitting all of the major and minor chords around the circle, as I said in the description
