Hi Robert, just subscribed. I think I have this issue nailed. It's entirely the position of your tongue during your pronunciation. Being a self-elocuted "sassenach" with an old school beeb-beeb-ceeb accent, I pronounce purple as _"perple"_ and burglar as _"bergler"._ My pronunciation employs a relatively flat tongue whereas yours, accentuating the depth of the "u" requires a substantial "dishing" of the tongue, by which I mean that you are lowering the central portion of your tongue whilst raising the peripheries. Simplistically, you're asking your poor tongue to perform some pretty Olympian gymnastics - my own attempts to emulate your vowel usage results in a similar oral catastrophe. My advice would be to stick to the more colloquially acceptable: "Yen noisy kant!" in order to avoid further confusion. 😛

The last of the "old world" lines of my family was a Gloucestershire lad who emigrated through Bristol Harbor in about 1800, so the Scots part of my lineage has been here since at least the 18th century; but Scottish ancestry neither dies out nor thins out. With all the English, Irish, and what-have-you (on both sides,) I'm still somehow 49% Scottish by DNA count. I've got my MacDougal great grandmother to thank for such joyous pursuits as housecleaning from dawn to physical collapse every New Year's Eve, because that's clearly superior to champagne and dancing.

Lived in TX 5 years and yeah, I won't be taking any lesons on speech from them. They pronounce Suite, as in Bedroom Suite like Suit, as in something you wear. Yes, I want to buy a Bedroom Suit! Then there's the whole ALL soda or pop is called coke. Literally had a guy ask me to get him a coke I was like they don't have coke, they have Pepsi products. In frustration he said a Dr Pepper! As in I was sipoosed to l ow thats what he meant. Well how the hell am I supposed to know coke means Dr Pepper or 7up or Sprite?
@allisoncurtis3079
@allisoncurtis3079 7 ай бұрын
@cryptojihadi265 He might of said Dr pepper because it is a Pepsi product. Southern people LOVE Coke! Most will not substitute Pepsi because it's to sweet. So when you said all they had was Pepsi products, his exasperated look might of been one of "Why would ANY business have PEPSI instead of COKE!" That statement is doubly true in the south!

We were in a pub and she was trying to tell me they’d been to visit a historical site here in Canada named “St Marie Among the Hurons”. Funny. I happen to love the Scottish accent. My GG grandmother was Scottish. My GG grandfather was Scots Irish. They met and married shortly after their arrival. She came alone to America and started a new life here in the 1840s. She never saw any of her family back in Scotland again. I’m so proud of my heritage and my immigrant GG grandparents. They were simple farmers but their sacrifices have lived on in my family. We now have nurses, doctors, teachers, accountants, ministers, men who have served in the Navy and Army, some who made it a career. etc. all because they bravely came looking for a better life. My life’s wish is to get to see Scotland one day. I feel very drawn to go there. I think it’s her passed down DNA in me that yearns to see Scotland again. My maiden name was Ross and her surname was MacLean.
