I have the opinion warming up a diesel at idle for 15 minutes or more is worse for the engine. I start my semi truck and once it has oil pressure and air pressure for a few minutes I circle around the parking lot with higher RPMs a couple times before leaving. The water temp rises fast and I can hear the engine running much smoother since it’s warm. If I let it idle from a cold start it takes forever to warm up and the whole time the engine is just sitting there blowing diesel out the exhaust and the rings are scratching the cylinder. When the engine is at 1,500 rpm there is much less stress on the camshaft and crankshaft than if it were at 900 rpm. It’s like the length of a ratchet the higher the RPMs, the longer the ratchet, the less required torque. Less torque means less wear on the engine with cold oil that doesn’t want to flow. Another benefit is the oil pump can really get that cold oil moving at a higher RPM so it warms up faster just from the increased back pressure. Once the temp drops below 30* I switch from conventional to to semi synthetic oil.

Good point on warming diesel.

Your theory on the propane refrigerator operation is wrong. The fire is separate from the closed loop cooling system. They do seem to be very efficient on gas. My guess is your generator has very little wrong with it. It will probably take longer to find the problem than fix it. Being a diesel camper does it have a diesel generator that runs off the same fuel tank? That would be nice.

The generator is propane on this Trek. I think it’s the starter. Your right, the propane refrigerator is very efficient. It had 1/2 tank of propane all this time we are using it and only down to 1/4 tank.

Also I don’t prefer the noise of a generator or the sound of engine idling, I know air conditioning systems I have tried in trucks that use 4 separate batteries to start the truck and 4 for the AC system that would last up to 3 days before you need to recharge by starting engine.

Thinking about the airconditioning situation . I have a Spark EV which is probably the most inexpensive electric car in the country. And it has a very good airconditoning system in it as well as a heater. I imagine that could be adapted to another vehicle is you are a electro-mechanical wiz kid of some sort. I plan to study up on that system to see how it works so well. Now that I think about it I guess it is no big deal to have an electric airconditioner as long and you have electric power. Its the heater which is pretty special.

Yea, that would be sweet to take out and use in an RV

A semi truck I drove had mini split AC system that ran off of 4 batteries. It would give on and off AC for up to 3 days until I would need to start truck to charge up the batteries

Unless I'm mistaken, you seem to be coming around as far as the Trek is concerned. In one previous video, you said there were things you didn't like, and that you weren't enjoying driving it. Now you sem to be enjoying it. What changed? :)

I’m absolutely in love with the motor, as far as it being in the Treck 10,000 lbs motorhome not so much. It will be ok on east coast. But the west hills is a bit weak.
