Herters sporting goods and hunting equipment store and catalog was the model that today's Cabela and big box sporting goods stores used with great success. George Herter's short stories and monologues about his products and how to use them are legendary. George's stories are a combination of old woodsman legend mixed with facts and delightful exaggeration. Of course everything is presented as the absolute truth. While all of his books are out of print, used copies can be purchased on Amazon, eBay, and from other online sellers. You might be surprised by some of the prices but that's because once you start reading George's books you want to own them all. And the vintage (late 1960's to early 1970's) catalogs are worth adding to your library as well.
