I really love Poe's use of satire in this story and the way he deflates all the progress of his time and how the only triumph of his era is the basic quack medicines of the 19th Century. Not to mention that this story is pretty much the root of all the later horror mummy movies which would come out from the 1930's onwards.

Thanks. See also Theophile Gautier's "The Mummy's Foot" from about the same time: www.gutenberg.org/files/22662/22662-h/22662-h.htm

This story is so funny oh my god; a bunch of Intellectuals argue with a mummy they so rudely brought t life and then argue with him for 2 hours to try and one up him until they basically resort to making fun of his clothes to finally get a win I find it especially very pertinent that when they brought up racial phrenology, the mummy was like 'what are you guys even talking about??' that was a very nice touch
