I've been aware of this song since at least my senior year of high school, when Matt Johnson sang it at the Pops Festival (the annual talent show) at Fairview High School in Boulder, CO. I won't mention the year.... ;)
I've always really loved the song, but I've never actually played it on piano, opting for guitar instead. I thought others might appreciate this arrangement, since it's a nice song to play. I've been playing it for years, and I'm happy to have finally recorded it for KZbin. The lyrics are lovely, but perhaps a bit irreverent and unexpected at times. Definitely not a traditional love song in some respects, but the message is still "awwww" inspiring.

Haven't listened to this song for probably 20 yrs. Depeche Mode was my absolute favorite band my entire teenage years - we're talking posters, picture disks, 12" singles. Hearing this again with years of life under my belt I have to think this may be the absolute best, most honest, open, mature love song ever written. And absolutely perfect performance by Mr Masse!

Love this song... i am a big fan of the 80s/early 90 depeche mode era and this song always sounded great in their live sets between the other more drummachine syntbass and sequence based songs.

I like this one Mike. I can just picture 1985 - Awkward ME at church dances - asking "that one girl" - and making way too big a deal of it. But this song would cut straight through the pretense.
