@@secretchiley he means that there no actual terrain features at such a large scale. which make all Minecraft worlds look identical. as they all look like random static from such a distance there are plenty of ways to add large scale terrain features. like climate bands, continents, oceans, etc. but those don't exist it's just effing perlin noise at larger scales.
@JaySk8n2 жыл бұрын
@@uniquename6925 Minecraft did try to do a continental based world generation in the early days, but what ended up happening was that the farther out from spawn you got, the more likely it was to be Ocean, which just led to infinite water. I think the perlin noise works perfectly fine, as while what you are talking about would be pleasing to look at in these "entire world rendered" imgs, it just wouldn't be a good feature for normal minecraft. You literally would not be able to tell from the actual world floor, and it would lead to less potential diversity in the minecraft experience. Minecraft is made with the whole idea in mind that 99% of players aren't going to travel more than like, 50k blocks *max* away, and most of the time will just stick in a small several thousand block area. As such, it's more important to make that area diverse (ie, any Biome can spawn and you can usually find a large amount of Biomes after only a small amount of time) than to try and do stuff on that large a scale.

It's imperfect, you can't place blocks and hit things across servers, and there are dupe glitches when entities move across. But this could be remedied in the future with a custom server or standalone game, so there's a chance you could see this in action in the future. Its not just about rendering chunks, each chunk is calculated before even being rendered to know what level of Perlin Noise is used which determines the blocks contained in each chunk which then determines what the chunk will even look like. We don't have the computing power to even do this in real-time for this amount of chunks, hence the render distance being capped and why we get heavy lag if tried to extend the cap. Other games have long distance rendering because the map was already predefined and not generated in real-time to an infinite scale like Minecraft, the terrains of these games are usually non changeable and not made from calculated Voxels on the fly. My guess if this is 'real-time' is that it's based on inaccurate predictions from the current noise levels we have already loaded in, meaning the terrain isn't actually accurate at all, if we had a starting point and moved in 1 direction from said point very far away, once we arrive at the chunks lets say 10,000 blocks away it would look completely different from what it looked like from the starting point. Not that we could tell anyway due to anti-aliasing and horrible graphics at that distance, there isn't enough pixels on your screen to even see that far clearly. The way those chunks will be loaded in is by using Fractal & Octree methods which means it would be a repeating Fractal which just keeps repeating already loaded in chunks to 'infinity' we've had this method for years but for a game like this its a completely inaccurate solution. That's why even on the video the terrain just looks exactly the same everywhere you look because its not the real terrain being generated just repeating chunks I've worked on voxel engines for years and seen people use these methods in voxel engines. The results look amazing, but it's completely inaccurate
@circuit10 Жыл бұрын

Mojang should take this as a warning, they missed out on shaders and they most likely are ganna miss out on this. Hire this man and give him the tools he needs to make minecraft as great as it can be, if he could get this working in bedrock that shows the massive potential that this can bring to the game. Porkchop needs to keep this energy up and keep this topic relevant, no forgetting this mod.
@harleyspeedthrust40132 жыл бұрын
I don't think this type of thing will ever make it to vanilla minecraft because it's a rewrite of major components of the game ON TOP OF another rewrite of major components of the game (cubicchunks). it's a massive change to the game that would surely break backwards compatibility (i.e., no upgrading your old worlds) and it would have to be implemented in at least java and bedrock, which would be an absolute nightmare. at this point the game works just fine as it is for most people and i think it would be a more profitable move for mojang to focus on building features and adding to the game.
@flintfrommother3gaming2 жыл бұрын
They didn't miss out on shaders, if that counts as "missing out" then they should "miss out". This mod though, It would be awesome, not just for more chunks (that would be awesome too) just for LoD performance and better culling.

I think, at this point, companies like Mojang (owned by Microsoft) intentionally drip feed content to keep the purchase of the game relevant and drip feeding them money. If they released the best of the best, then people would flood the markets, and everyone would have it and nobody would need to buy anymore. If they stick out a carrot every now and then to build hype, then they are able to retain more purchases over time.

@MGSLurmey2 жыл бұрын
Exponentially, outside of mathematics, is used as a layman's term for "faster and faster". In this context, he's just saying that the larger the render distance, the more severe the impact on performance. Radius 2 to 3 adds 24 chunks to the area, but 3 to 4 adds 32, and 4 to 5 adds 40. Going from radius 31 to 32, the largest without mods, adds 248 chunks to the total. It's not exponential by any means, but it does increase as the radius goes up, or in other words it's not linear. That's all that really needs to be understood here. Edit: Just wanted to mention that despite this being frustrating to mathematicians, consider that you probably use "theory" to describe an idea that you haven't yet proven to be true. This, would in fact be a hypothesis, not a theory. Layman's terms!

I believe the reason for Minecraft not being able to load everything, and Mojang having so signs of ever implementing a feature like that, is because of new updates. 3:36 To be honest every single game is designed to reduce the amount of pixels dedicated to an object if that object is getting far away from you. That's just a fancy way of saying, if the object is far, it is smaller, hence taking less space on your screen. In reality, LOD is what's happening when you're getting farther from an object, LOD (level of detail) is this technique, that helps determine how far the object is and according to that distance, chooses a representation of that particular object with worse (or better) geometric quality (might also be a texture quality) and then you would render this object. See when you have a simple house, there are lots of details there -> door with lots of additional things, windows with its framing, bricks that have gaps between each other etc (this is LOD 0), the farther you get, the higher the LOD is and the more the details diminish, thus choosing a building with less and less triangles and at the end, the building might no longer be this cube or whatever, but just a simple vertical plane with a texture loaded onto it.
@foodynooby2 жыл бұрын
