EXACTLY THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING My mom had two miscarriages in her life which is why she never liked when people announced pregnancies early out of fear of them going through the trauma she went through. I don't even feel like the statement "I'm sorry if I offended you" is that problematic, IF it's followed up with something along the lines of "now that I know, I'll take care to avoid actions like that, and think more of others when I act." I think that first bit is so problematic because it's just honest enough, I.e. "I'm sorry you're upset [because it's now hurting me]," then it leaves it open enough that whoever said it can pretend the "I'm going to try and not do it again" is implied, when at this point, it's easier to believe you said that because you plan to do the thing again.
