When I was little my Italian immigrant grandmother would scold me when suntanning outdoors. In her day only peasants who worked out in the fields had dark skin. Grandma was very light skinned and would apply white talcum powder to her face before getting dressed up. The lighter the skin the more the money you had. Also if you were thin you were poor. A bucksom woman signified your husband could afford feed you.

It`s not all doom and gloom. I have a daughter, a son-in-law, and a grandson. And I am a teacher, which means that I`m in constant contact with young people, and many of them are very decent young people around, who care for their families. The problem with us people is, that we oftentimes tend to idealize the past and the people in it. Times change, but then they always have. In the 1920`s young people were far more wild than they are today. In the 50`s there was also a lot going on. History teaches us that the older generations have always been disappointed in the younger generations. It`s difficult to accept changes but it`s inevitable. No generation is perfect, and no era in history has ever been perfect. Far from it.

I adored my grandparents & we got on like a house on fire & we did mad things together & laughed so much! Even though i had a super mum & dad, they were correct & lead by good example for me to follow. But the most fun in my younger life was always with my grandparents. Now my grandson is 17yrs & we have always been close & almost Telepathetic & his pals love coming to my house with him & we laugh & talk for hours They are always asking me what it was like to be young in the 1960s & 70s. They listen to my music records of the rock bands of my youth & look at my photos when we all wore mini skirts & they thrill to my stories! Yet my 2 daughters werent that interested.. I worked for the post office and when I was putting the mail in up in so boxes that were in the lobby an old man came up to me and said: Little darlin I could take you in my arms and waltz across Texas with you. I could have told him that he would have his work cut out for him because I certainly was no dancer 💃🏻. 😅😅😅😅

This movie showed back in Hollywood's earlier days , that they had a heart, morals, and allowed God in the film!! Those commenting how far we have fallen morally, spiritually, and politically are so right on target, we have become all that our parents taught us not to be !! America us in serious decline, and it will take more than a new president to heal the evil, may God melt our cold hearts towards each other, even those we disagree with!! Thanks for your time!!

This is one of the most tender, saddest, most beautiful films I’ve ever seen. I have learned so much. I too, have a son I so much wish to see. He left home at 18, and he’s 31 now. My lamp 🪔 will always be shining in the window for him ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

I love the old fashioned night clubs. ( 46 minutes in ) So elegant with everyone dressed up and the live orchestra. Sigh......

My grandmother showed me this film recently. I often humour her when she shows me an old black and white movie. They can be a hit or a miss for me, but what a wholesome gem of a film this was. Easily one of my favourites. Lovely story ❤

Such a wonderful movie. All the young men were so respectful to her. So very sad she never knew about her Son but in a way she gained a Grandson. A great movie. ❤️

It makes me want to go back in time more now. People took the time for others, not just bustle around being self centered like we've evolved into.

This beautiful way of being towards each other with loving respectful consideration and these beautiful refined manners can still be yours to keep, practice and bless others with. It is godly love. It comes from God being in our heart and thoughts.

One of the college students is a very young Peter Lawford. Also, the actress playing Mrs. Freeman played the dress shop owner who sold her business to Lucy & Ethel on “I Love Lucy.”
