I want to express my appreciation for your tutorial. I know I will be coming back to this several times to understand what you are teaching us. I have not always appreciated the watercolor tool in ArtRage. Your tutorial has sparked more interest for me. Thank you again.

These two videos really help SOS! Thanks for posting them two years ago. I'm just now trying my hand at watercolors, versus chalk pastels. Very different techniques are required for the two brushes. It is going to take me some time to completely understand the settings of the watercolor tool. Thanks again! These types of videos really make a difference. V5 will rock!

Nicely done. A lot of this (and the previous video) isn't in the obvious category. Amazing what the ArtRage can do.

Very, very cool! When ArtRage posted a link to this on Facebook, I confess I only gave it a quick glance, I thought to myself, "Whoa, is someonesane pasting some photo reference of the moon onto a layer? Eh, kinda cheesy." And I moved on. days later, I'm on KZbin and decide to watch your latest uploads and boy do I feel stupid. I should have known better! I bow to your technique, you certainly know your way around ArtRage. I imagine it comes from many hours of fearless experimentation. Thanks, again, for sharing your knowledge! P.S. I should spend more time in the forums, but I've never really been a forums kind of guy. I better smarten up :)

FrankMakesMovies Thanks! Always happy to share something new. And yes, it never hurts to browse the forums! A lot of good methods passed around there :)

Thanks so much for putting this together! I just finished following along and it turned out great. I've been a little down about my ability to get results with the tablet, but after this it's clear that I just need to spend more time learning how to use it.

This was very interesting - you've got me pretty psyched to play with the watercolor tool in AR.

Thank you for both these videos! I had a couple questions, please: When you created your own texture (in Part 1), did you make it tileable, or does that matter? Also, when I used to paint with traditional Dr. Martin's Dyes, one technique I enjyed was to drop clear water into an already wet area. This would create little "star-bursts" in that area? You sort of did that a bit when you laid in the clouds, but do you know of any other way to get that effect? Thanks again for these great tuts! BTW: I also *_loved_* your skull painting!

+Kevin Phillips - Thanks for the kind words and for watching my videos Kevin! Yes, I usually go out of my way to make all of my textures tiled. I have a video for how to make a tile using ArtRage 4, as well. You don't have to use a tiled texture, but it does help avoid seeing seam edges. As far as the star burst effect goes, I'm not really sure. I'd have see an example of the finished effect, to know how I'd tackle trying to replicate the 'look' of it, using ArtRage.

Your videos are of great help! Thank you for putting them up! I have a question, though: the Dropbox account where you uploaded some of awesome resources seems to be no longer active. Have you by any chance uploaded them somewhere else?
@someonesane7 жыл бұрын
Dropbox changed how the folder system worked, which ended up breaking all of my links. I've been slowly updating them as people have asked about specific files. If you come across a link that isn't working, please let me know by posting on the ArtRage forum thread if at all possible, as it'll be the easiest way for me to know which files I need to locate and re-link it. If that's not possible, please list out the name of the resources you were interested in (as I've named them in the threads) and I'll do my best to get the links for them up again.

I am particularly interested in the "Spongy Brushes (Sticker Spray Presets)" that you posted here (the flattened version): forums.artrage.com/showthread.php?37629-Spongy-Brushes-(Sticker-Spray-Presets)/page3 And also the Pencil Pack that you posted here: forums.artrage.com/showthread.php?44506-Has-Anyone-Has-2B-to-2H-pencil-preset And thank you! Your videos and resources are awesome!

Thanks for the links. I was able to locate the files and believe I have updated all the links on the threads for those resources. While testing the links (after updating them) I noticed it took a little bit of time for the download link to appear on the DropBox page. I'm not sure if that's an Explorer thing or if that happens with other browsers too, but I thought I'd mention it. So if you click the links and show up there and don't initially see the download button, just hang out for like 20 seconds, because they seem slow in showing up. Anyway, I hope you have fun with them! If you find anymore that aren't working, just let me know.

Thank you for the tip, it worked for the pencil pack! But I get a message of "File not found. Sorry, that file doesn’t live here anymore. It might have been moved or made private" for the Spongy Brushes. Notice that I'm referring to the flattened version link, the one on the first post of the third page of the thread. The "3D" Spongy Brushes link in the beginning of the thread does work indeed! Do you still have the flat version of those sprays?

Hello again. Yep, I overlooked that one. Should be fixed now though. Let me know if you have any trouble with it. Enjoy!

Oh, another thing, I've suggested on the forums that the stencil comes with a default selection to prevent the "over the edge" spread of paint. Not sure if it will be in 5.
@someonesane8 жыл бұрын
I am currently within the beta group 5. As they've given us the leeway to discuss the new features in it now, I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have about it. As for the Stencil selection, I don't believe it's present. However, I'm also not entirely sure I understand the feature suggestion, so maybe I'm not seeing it, because I don't entire understand what I'm looking for. Could you explain what you had suggested to them in a bit more detail?
@PatMcDonald418 жыл бұрын
someonesane Thanks foryour answer. I'm really looking forward to 5, but I don't want the anticipation to get anymore intense, smile, I'll wait for the release. I'll upgrade the very next instant. Sorry I wrote so inelegantly about my selection question. Since I first saw your KZbin video I found myself always (every single time!) putting a selection around a stencil to stop the paint spilling over. This became so repetitive that it struck me that the default behaviour of a stencil should be that it is encased in a selection. Naturally you could unselect when appropriate. Please let me know if my meaning is still unclear. Best wishes, Pat

Patrick McDonald - I see. I wonder if your problem couldn't be corrected using the "Ruler Mode". Right click a stencil and you will see the option there. The stencil will turn from red to white. When in this mode, the tools are supposed to be limited from moving beyond the edges of the current gap you've clicked within. I want to say the same is true for color fills, but I'm not at my computer to double check. It'd still require you to take that additional step, but at least you wouldn't have to make a precise selection.
@PatMcDonald418 жыл бұрын
someonesane There's always an answer. I am sure that will work. I've got Artrage loaded on my computer now, I will go try it.
@PatMcDonald418 жыл бұрын
Erm, not sure what I've done wrong. It didn't work, the paint still spilled out beyond the edges of a Ruler. Not to bother, unless the answer is easy I will continue to make a selection manually.
