9:32 o my goodness the orb from the Inside is back again. Also if we follow the last ending here where the father died and take the Inside timeline as a continuation which highly suggests also maybe those mindless zombies are their fathers.

The game has nothing to do with Inside. A different company made it, although it was founded by ONE OF THE authors of Inside of ANOTHER company.

I had such high hopes for this title. It shares a pedigree with Limbo and Inside, two games known for their alluring visual style, puzzles, and atmosphere. This game concludes with a puzzle so badly communicated, that you are not even sure that it is a puzzle the first time you play. In fact, you'll likely have to read discussion groups to discover this. To make matters worse, solving this puzzle requires you to pay attention and interpret moments from the whole game, moments that don't appear important...meaning if you did not pick these up, you have to replay the game. And even if you do pick them up, the final solution still requires a hell of a lot of guesswork. You're likely to default to one of the game's "bad" endings. This results in a slog that could have been solved if the game had a modicum or foresight to have you replay these moments before the end or have a series of flashbacks so you can remember the final solution. I know people want to feel smart for having to figure this out, but Somerville is a narrative failure. Seriously, I just finished Scorn--that game's a hot mess and it made more sense than this.
@thebigenchilada6782 жыл бұрын
I feel like it’s final puzzle was fair enough, if you’re going to complain about narrative then proceed to compare it to limbo and Inside (both headache inducingly vague and pretentious narratives that are “up for interpretation”) then I can’t take your opinion very seriously, I feel like this game offered the same visual flair but unlike Limbo or Inside, Somerville actually told a cohesive narrative that rewards the player for paying attention. The first thing I noticed about the little orbs were their behaviors, the game was practically developed by animators and they tell the story through animation, those little ball guys are observing you, their signals tell you the code to input at the end, they even react when you try to “talk” to them and repeat their code. Not to mention their means of communication directly correspond with the fuckin color and sound that the main puzzle solving gameplay mechanics make… And “oh no you gotta replay the game to get the code? 0/10!” Let’s just forget about, again, Limbo and Inside doing the same exact thing except you *have* to replay the game to get their alternate endings with inside’s ending being particularly fuckin dumb. “Woah you unplugged the computer and the game ended??? So deep.”
@felinemage82852 жыл бұрын
I kinda agree with you. Not to mention this game started with a bad taste. It bugged right at the start and I had no idea what was a solution or ehat was the game bugging. I found alot of the secret orbs but hell if I knew what they were for especially if i found them before the solution so i thought they were the solution to the puzzle. This game was a headache for sure.

@@thebigenchilada678 When someone disregards one's opinion based on their opinion on something else, personal biases show through. The difference between Somerville's and Inside's endings is that Inside's alt ending is just that; it's not the "happy" ending or the "real" ending. It's a fun little easter egg that comments on gameplay in general. Somerville's standard ending is downbeat and isn't earned based on the narrative line of the game by that point. It's also ridiculously fast-paced. I finished the game in less than 3 hours, and that includes me taking in the scenery and getting stuck on terrain way too often. Somerville's only "happy" ending requires a ridiculous code sequence, a level of puzzle generally reserved for alt endings that don't add more to the story. I don't mind repeating a game to see alternate paths (I do it all the time). I am saying that Somerville's ending is unearned, given its previous acts. It feels half-baked and needed likely another hour to flesh out its ideas before racing to its climax. Finally, you responded to my generalized comment with mockery, so this will be my only response as my opinion of you is fairly low.

Good video. Got to ask since I tried to interpret the language so many times to get the understanding, after a while I just had to look it up, because none of my interpretations worked. I think I got "Hi", "No" and maybe "Come here", but I couldn't realize how to get that last part. May I ask exactly how you figured out the language? Like what made you think what was what of the words and their meanings? Appreciate the conversation!
