Somerville at 140

Somerville was founded in 1879 to allow women to study at Oxford. In the 140 years since, we've educated prime ministers, Booker Prize-winners and a Nobel Laureate. Our student body and buildings have expanded beyond the scope of our founders. And since 1994, men have been admitted too. In this film, members of our community reflect on Somerville's achievements in the last 140 years, and look ahead to the next.

Only just found this video - brilliant. I resonated to the statement that -it was a place where it was OK for women to be clever. I was at Somerville from 1967 -1970.

An absolutely splendid video of Somerville College, with it`s important and historical background detail, especially documenting the difficulties and educational disadvantages that women have faced until the quite recent past. Merton College alumnus myself,( male ) undergrad/post grad during the turbulent transition years - late 1960`s to late 1980`s when University Oxford moved from single gender to bi-gender education throughout the many colleges - not always without some friction, it has to be said !! A brilliantly produced video, so three cheers to all those involved :)
