Something About Dragons

Doodling with the intent of expressing dragon-ness. I used a glass pen from Cult Pens and inks purchased from Essshop (yes, that's three esses).

Soothing, as everyone else said. Admirable use of real guitar with synths. Admirable use of Venetian glass pen. The whole thing gives me the feeling of watching Pinwheel or early 1980s PBS.

There is something magical about letting the picture draw itself and the pen driving the thoughts. Funny enough I was just thinking about such things with Olivia this morning. Imagine an old TV with the screen removed and a canvas stretched in its place but the painting made on the inside amongst the electronics. Or a 35mm slide viewed down a camera lens. Or a giant sculpture that can only be understood by climbing inside.. Anyway wonderful little video Patrick and sweet sweet music. I hope you have summoned a powerful dragon to watch and protect you....

Thank you so much Martin! I like this format because it feels like I'm discovering the drawing the same time you are. Actually, viewers have a better idea of the direction that the pen is taking because I'm doing it in real time and the marks don't necessarily indicate clear forms as I make them. I love the idea of the painting within a tv. It reminds me of an Insta creator who projects movies oonto circuits. I'll send you the link if I can find it.

Wow, the music takes me back to when I used to imagine a kind of fantasy world with dragons and knights (I was really into that). The chords are gorgeous and some are quite strange, but you've actually pushed the boundaries of the harmonic rules of that "genre" (which I say loosely). Beautiful drawing as well!

Thank you, Karl. I worried that the harmonies were too "off", so I'm glad you liked them. I did want to push a little outside the comfy zone to evoke the strangeness of dragons. I remember the thrill of seeing "Dragonslayer" in the theatre as a young teen. I wish there were more moody fantasy monster movies like that.
