These 3 are just tops, performing a jazz standard. What musicianship! I'm just sorry I hadn't heard of Hetty Kate until now - she is absolutely marvelous.

I always loved June Christy's version of this song, but Hetty sings it with subtlety and style, beautifully accompanied by a sensational guitarist. Love it!

She has a bit to go before being able to compete with June Christy on this song, but a decent attempt. She doesn't get the same feeling of the beautiful formally rich woman who is looking back on her life and wondering, somewhat bewildered, how she got where she is but accepting it nevertheless. I don't think she has lived enough to understand this song.

Hi Bunkaunk, thanks for watching, this is 'she' answering you. Firstly it's not a competition! Music and art is subjective and I would never ever presume to be 'better' or compete with June Christy. That wasn't the purpose of singing the song and frankly would be weird if it was. And yes you're quite right about the gravity and melancholy of the song lyrics. It's a wonderful story-song, I'm glad YOU understand it. Now, let's get down to facts. June Christy made the album 'Something Cool' when she was 28-30 years old and it came out when she was 35. How much life had SHE lived at 28 years old when she recorded it? I was 40 years old in this video. And, though I may not be wizened, wrinkled or seem 'old enough' to deliver the song satisfactorily to you - and you're quite entitled to your opinion - I can assure you that when I sing the song, especially now as I write this as a 45 year old woman, I am able to understand the meaning of the song. I understand it very well. And, for me, understanding and delivering any song honestly is very important. You are correct, as we age the nuance of our life experiences colour and add gravitas and different perspectives to the lyrics - that's the beauty of performance. That's the beauty of artistic practise. So thanks for watching and caring enough to take the time out of your day to add your comment :)

As a man who started playing music when he was 5 and reaching 35 now, the level of musicianship here in a trio is extremely high. And I typically don’t cry in the end of a song I am listening to, so there is that.

First. you have a fine voice. Yes,it is not a competition, but when the song has been sung by someone meone who made the icing mic performance, it is inevitable that comparisons will be made. Also, yes,June was younger than you, but maturity cannot be measured by age. June started singing with a local band when she was 13. By16 she was singing with a Chicago band far away from her parents. Why? June was very secretive about her private life. No one seems to know the names of her parents, and there are no pictures of her with them. Why? Poor family life? Beatings? Molestation? Nothing wrong? She also had a serious drinking problem dispute being happily married. Why? We don’t know, but there are signs of trouble. In the end I don’t hear the stress and trouble in her voice that I hear in June’s. It is not a sound you can “act”. Maybe you’ll have it in a few years or maybe you never will. Maybe it just isn’t you. You do have talent, and although you love this song, you might be better off singing other songs that are more natural to you.
