Hola España! In our new episode of RIDE, we are visiting The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, one of the most famous traditional riding schools worldwide. 117 Andalusian horses, staff, and students preserve the traditional Spanish riding style. The heart of the school are the shows, which are also a highlight for every visitor. With a lot of attention to detail and original costumes, they are a must-see for all horse lovers.

These horses are so incredible! My mare is half Andalusian, half quarter horse, and there is a distinct difference in how engaged she is with me, compared to many of the others I've owned or worked with. She's very expressive and sweet, always wants to know what's going on around, and oh so willing to please and tries hard at anything I ask of her! An incredible breed.

I used to have an old black retired Dressage Andalusian as my first lease horse. You would never know he was a stallion by his gentle behavior. Never bit or kicked anybody. He had such a sweet and kind nature. He passed away more than a month ago, shortly after his 24th birthday. Run free, sweet boy, you were a one-of-a-kind horse 💔 If I'm ever in a position where I can afford a horse, I know I'll definitely be getting an Andalusian.

Aw thanks@@sapphirevilya! It's going to be my retirement and moving to a smaller house in a different country present to myself. I follow 'Tara - and her horses' You-Tube channel - she rescued an Andalusian filly from a dodgy breeder/dealer. She - Bella - has grown up into a fine looking horse and has just been broken in by Tara herself. I can't recommend her channel enough as she is a mighty fine horsewoman with YEARS of experience! Please could you give me the link to the UK breed club?

@@christinedavies336 That's lovely! Yes, I know of her channel, and have been watching many of her videos over the years. Her buckskin filly/mare (I think she is old enough now to be called that) bella is gorgeous, and such a sweet girl. As regards to the UK Breed Club, here you go: look up - bapsh (KZbin removed my comment 4 times now, because it seems they do not like links here. So just look the name up, the first result should be it). I myself am planning to visit the UK soon, and I'm looking for a place that offers riding on an Andalusian, for a quiet trail ride. I miss the breed dearly, and would love to have a chance to interact with it again, as there are very few of these horses in my country.

@@sapphirevilya When I first visited Andalusia, I went to a riding centre near Cadiz for a week's stay. I arrived in the afternoon and settled into my room, then went to the riding ring. The owner, Karin, was giving a little girl from Paris a special final lesson before the little girl went home the next day. I was absolutely agog to watch a ten year old girl riding a five year old stallion. Knowing the general reputation of stallions of most breeds, I thought it was incredible until I got to know the breed better. PRE and Lusitanos are the only breeds I where I would ride a stallion without hesitation.

@melloyellowblue

I believe these are PREs. The difference is the purity of the bloodlines. Andalusians in the US were allowed to crossbreed with some other Iberian type horses, and so are no longer considered "Pure" by the ANCCE standards, which holds the PRE (Pura Raza Española or Pure Spanish Race) studbook.

If you guys trully knew what iberian horses suffer in training and in their lives with basically no pasture time for stallions (not everyone of course but i could say 90% of them all). If a horse struggles due to being unconfortable or due to pain or because they do not understand what the human wants they are called horses that are doing that on purpouse and are then punished physically. Iberian horses are the poster child for learned helpness, stress stacking and shut in horses. Many say what a calm horse they have and then suddenly an explosion of bucking or anything and they get all surprised since they have had a "calm" horse for years. If a horse doesnt wanna go forward due to anything they dont go back to basics, most will turn their spurs in lift their legs high and slam them on the sides of the horse. Many say its normal to sometimes have a horse belly bloody from spurs, its cause they "needed" it, since they didnt wanna go forwards. Many use serretas (the metal tooth band that goes under the noseband) for a horse that doesnt listen to the bit, instead of working on the underlying problem which is not 100% trained fundamentals they go the easy way, submission. Foreign horse owners that have horses in portugal or spain... i would seriously say go in secret watch your trainers train your horses. Ive heard many say that when foreigners are in stables and the horse doesnt wanna go in the arena or do something they cant do what they normally would do to make the horse go, which mean whipping, yanking, screaming and hiting. The new scandal with that high profile horse rider.... thats an everyday life in many iberian training stables.
