OK from what has been suggested already plus some guess work I think I see what happened here. The BBC asks for use of the BT satelitte until 11GMT (12BST but they converted it because BT stay on GMT as proved by the time on the BT card), but when BT dealt with this request (I say request as I don't know exactly how broadcasters book bt satelittes) by giving the beeb the satelitte until 11 but they assumed the beebs time was BST and cut off at 11BST (10GMT).
@JoelGetzhasauselessurl7 жыл бұрын
I agree with you except for the satellite part. The show is most likely sent from the studio it's being shot in to the BBC broadcast control using microwave link, with the BT Tower acting as a relay. Since the signal only has to go across the city instead of one side of the country to the other, using a satellite would be overkill.

@DavidL24 I dont think so. BT is used by the BBC (& ITV) to relay signals from studios to the main channel control board. A fault at BT's end caused the signal to be cut off.
@toranine094 жыл бұрын
the BT tower serves as a relay & must be booked by stations wishing to use it. given that this was during british summer time, the beeb likely said “hey, we want a slot that goes until 12 noon!” meaning BST (equivalent to UTC+1/GMT+1), but the tower engineers likely booked by UTC - so the feed wouldve been decommissioned an hour earlier than expected

What caused the breakdown
@toranine094 жыл бұрын
the program was being relayed via the BT Tower, and this was during british summer time (GMT +1). BBC likely requested the slot to go until “11” - assuming that the BT engineers would be going by BST. however, the BT engineers were likely going by GMT/UTC, meaning the slot was actually booked in as going up to 11am UTC, an hour earlier than anticipated. as the slot was no longer in commission, the feed switched to a BT feed.
