Diane Abbott has lashed out at Sir Keir Starmer, accusing him of dishonesty for claiming he has no control over restoring the Labour whip to her. The suspended ex-shadow home secretary slammed the Labour leader amid increasing pressure from left-wing MPs to act.
Abbott criticised Starmer after he sidestepped questions about her readmission. She was stripped of the whip last year after suggesting in a letter that Jewish people don’t experience racism “all their lives.” Despite her subsequent apology and retraction, an internal investigation was launched.
Facing mounting pressure from left-wing MPs, Starmer insisted it’s up to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to decide. He said, “It’s not a question of what I want. The days when the Labour leader gets involved in disciplinary cases are over. It’s a matter for the NEC.”
Abbott fired back, saying, “It has everything to do with him,” accusing Starmer of avoiding responsibility.
The dispute has deepened the rift between Labour’s leadership and its left-wing faction. John McDonnell and other former Corbyn allies have called on Starmer to reinstate Abbott. Four Labour-affiliated union bosses and 15,500 petitioners also support her return.

She didn't "get in a muddle with the maths" the questions she was asked were not complicated university level maths questions. They were what are known in primary schools as big sums or the times tables 300÷10 even after using the calculator on her I pad she couldn't work it out. I'm aware that her university degree isn't for maths but don't yo need A levels to get into Uni. Which brings me to suspect that she isn't really a university graduate or cheated to get in there either way I wouldn't have much confidence in the thought of her handling a multi million pound budget which she would have if she were home secretary. I wouldn't have confidence in her estimating how much two cups of coffee would cost😅

This is the one issue I agree with Abbott on. If I was walking down the street and someone like Emily Maitlis walked past me, I would have no idea she is Jewish. They both say that once someone apologises then lets move on and all is forgiven. However this frequently does not work both ways. I remember when someone involved in football made the 'horrendous' mistake of saying coloured prson instead of person of colour which was then demanded by certain groups that this is what everyone should say. He was hounded out of his job even though what he said was in defence of people and was not said in a negative way. Also the same with a female politician (can't remember her name) but she was actually defending D Abbott but again she said coloured prson. She was hounded out of her job, largely because Abbott took such offence at this.
