Latin American countries do this too look at this year's Latina contestants for Miss Universe mostly blonde with majority European ancestry. There are millions of outstanding black and indigenous women in Latin America get overlooked as European beauty standards reign supreme in a blue moon you will see Afro Latinas represented at a pageant with long gaps until another one is chosen. A German girl can show up tomorrow to Brazil, Argentina, or Venezuela and win their pageant as long as she is a citizen and speak the language but I can't say the same for a women of color. Here in USA, since IMG, Miss USA have chosen black or mixed race black women except 2015 and 2018. Certain fans have a problem with black queens winning in consecutive years but in basketball and athletics we send mostly black athletes and win internationally. Miss Grand South Africa is very pre-1994 and is appealing to a certain clientele in South Africa but look at the success of the Miss South Africa Organization where their key to success is South Africa's diversity.

I'm extremely happy for your comment cause i always believed that Latina Girls are born with white skin. And then, when i watched some Novelas Tv, i saw that latina girls are not only born whith white skin color but they are also black, i was surprised. But i think like you said this is the problem about Organization but not the girls. We have to see diversity with the models.

Hey, most of the latinas chosen for international pageants have been mixed race. Andrea meza looks white, but has over 50% indigenous (native american) blood and even little bit asian. Colombia is also a good example. Paulina and Ariadna are NOT WHITE. Same goes for Brazil and infact majority of the latin american countries. People with significant afro blood are definitely very small minority in latin america. Still we've had such representatives from Brazil, colombia, panama, puerto rico so i don't think they are ignored.

@@risausup4607 honey, that's a weak argument. It's you who mentioned anything about it being a cooking show, not me. Just because you can't justify his petty actions and you come with your petty assumptions. In SA, black is >80%, white is 8.8%, Indian, Asian, Other >2.5%. I think it's a matter of marketing & access for the other population groups. I feel if any organisation intends to pick an individual to represent our country & put "South Africa" in their title, then contestants should be representative of SA. The organisation should try & cast its net as wide as possible to the target market for more quality contestants to enter. Quality black contestants will enter in numbers if it resonates with them. I used to say the same thing regarding competitions like Idols SA & The Voice SA. With Idols SA, SA only got their 1st black Idols winner from the 8th Season onwards because for the 1st time, Idols SA was marketed and a call to enter made on both MNet (then incumbent expensive pay TV) AND on Mzansi Magic (cheaper pay channel that a lot of non-white (historically poorer) people have access to). So, a lot more black contestants entered Idols SA Season 8 than before and the viewing (voting) demographics followed suit. It was a tight race, but a deserving black contestant won. Last year, 2021, the winner was a deserving white singer, Berry Trytsman, voted for by majority black viewers. In 2019, Micayla Oelofse, a white young lady, came 3rd. If you're deserving & people resonate, black SA will vote for you. Meanwhile, over at The Voice SA, which only aired on MNet, the only black person to ever be in the Top 5 was the incredible Siki Jo-Anne, who just has an incredible superstar presence on stage, she came 3rd. Granted, she wasn't the best vocalists that season, but the most memorable one, in my humble opinion. The honour of best vocalist, imho, goes to Lelo Ramasimong (watch especially her "Mercy" audition), then Yahto Kraft (especially "Never Enough") & Felicia Seoehle - none of whom made Top 5. MNet 's The Voice SA voters & live show viewers are largely white & Afrikaans & will vote based on what resonates with them. The status quo won't change if MNet doesn't include the other, more inclusive channel viewers. Same with this Miss Grand. And, if they want better placing internationally, they'd be more inclusive, which creates better competition locally & better final selection from which to chose the best of the best that year to represent us internationally, whatever race they may be. It's only good for the their organisation to send the best.

They have clearly chosen this as the pageant to place white winners. Whether we like it or not, there are some white pageant fans who aren't pleased with the number of black Miss SA winners compared to white. Despite there being a fair amount of white winners since 2000(almost half). So of course they're going to create their own little competition. What I don't get is black women who then go and compete in a pageant that clearly has an agenda to exclude them.

Now, could the choir say "Amen!" I watched the pageant yesterday and came to the same conclusion. It looked like a white event from the audience to the contestants who made the finals, a heavy snowfall on the continent of Africa. Many of the black contestants who were physically seemed to have placed in the top 20. Then they were eliminated from to 10 and definitely top 5. Nevertheless, I felt like rolling my eyes but was not angry at all. There was no effort to hide their intention here and then you showed the history of the winner from the past eight years and I had a ha-ha moment. Here is what I wrote yesterday long before I discovered your video here today. I started my comment with the line: "This was a very "white" event; nonetheless, I enjoyed the competition." Then I moved the sentence down a little further down in the narrative: "The winner whose ancestry is Ukrainian focussed on the war in Europe, but not other parts of the world, so she was very much a part of the problem that she associated with the media. She also criticized the South African government without giving any real solutions; yet, I think she would do well internationally. Many of the women wearing the white dresses from the top 20 - 10 were on my list for the first cut. They should compete at Miss Universe and World SA. Having said that the women who made top 5 deserved to be there, but I thought the crown would have gone to the third runner-up Anita or second runner-up S." Thanks for sharing.

To be honest you should've spoken about the crowned queen more. She's a very sour character from what I've heard. Without bashing that queen, what I can say is there's a reason why the Instagram comments on the official MGSA page were closed for a while after she'd been crowned. (P.S when they had not posted Lujuan's winning photo quickly enough people flocked to Jeane's last photo. Comments are still closed on that one to this day!) While it is upsetting that the queen was not a Woman of Colour we can only hope next year more Woman of Colour enter, preform well and get high placement. Ultimately MaggyDee Productions crowned the queen they think is most equipped to compete overseas from the group of contestants they had this year. We can only hope that since Lujuan was 1st Runner Up during Jeané's reign-then crowned this year- that she can make an impact overseas, right???

@ongezwantanga23812 жыл бұрын
That's your problem, you base beauty on European beauty standards, black girls have done very well for the organization recently and I thjnk that is proof enough that Miss SA only chooses the best. Last year A white girl, Natasha Joubert was sent to Miss universe and she didn't even place. As someone who has been watching the pageant and following it very closely I can tell you right now that our white girls need to work on their speaking abilities because that's where they loose unfortunately. Tamsyn is very promising this year, she's been working very hard on her stage presence, she's definitely one of my favorites for the crown but if she doesn't nail her QnA then the likes of Ayanda, Ndavi, Lelo, Lebo, Pearl will definitely snatch that crown.

for the very first time im dissapointed in your comentary Rina! You of all people should know that pageantry crownings can not and should not be based on colour! So why make this into a racial thing! Things are already so out of wack in SA we don't need people pouring petrol onto the flames.Miss Grand International SA also have a judging panel and this year there were 2 black woman on the judging panel. You yourself said pageantry is all about the whole package not just a certain criteria! Meaning you cant just be a good speaker and lack in the other departments or visa versa! Those 4 judges crowned a winner together its not like Miss Grand International picks the winners its the judging panel. You need to have the overall package and clearly this years judges and previous judges of other years crowned someone they feel had that.What i do agree with is that they can do a far more better job of firstly promoting Miss Grand International to the public better and actually do a far better job of the event itself, like in a better venue with more space a better stage so that every woman has the best chance of showcasing themselves. Does everything in SA always have to be based on colour. We now already have to black queens crowned in international pageants that i with my whole heart belive deserved it and surely this wont be the last and the day will come that a black woman will be crowned Miss Grand SA but it will be because she deserves it and not just because she is a black woman.
@obedthemagnificent71282 жыл бұрын
Hi Nico i have actually never watched Miss Grand South Africa and I actually don't know how it's judged but the normal judges actually have about 50% say on who wins in most major pageants i believe that's why Rina is saying this. Meaning theu can overpower the actual judges with their votes. Most people believed that the first runner up shoukd have been crowned. Also maybe potential black candidates are also tired of entering because they already know what's going to happen. Let's continue talking about the uncomfortable race issues so that we can sort it out Nico. I don't care which race wins but give me a valid reason. Be as transparent as Miss South Africa. That's what we are asking.
