I remember learning is physiology that you shouldn't give your kids medicine each time they have a fever. A fever is indicating the body fighting off an infection. If you give medicine each time they have a fever, you're delaying the body's ability to fight it off.

Amanda Brown we was told this also. Our pediatrician said that anything under 100.4 for a infant/toddler is considered normal and not to give them medicine right away. It's hard not to though especially when their fevers are that high. Fevers make me very uncomfortable. Our daughter has had a febrile seizure in the past. It's hard not to give them medicine right away especially when they feel so icky

Lady Kai With a fever that high I probably would've given him medicine too. But once it came down a degree or so I probably would've tried to see if his body could fight it from there and keep a close eye on his temperature. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter having a seizure, I can't imagine how scary that is.

Amanda Brown thank you! It's extremely scary. Especially when you call 911 and they put you on hold so they can ask someone else what to tell you do. It's awful you feel so helpless because they're truly nothing you can do for your child it's all on them. She turned blue around the mouth and dark around her eyes on top of the convulsions. I thought we had lost her. I usually alternate medicine if the fever reaches over 101 for a few doses because with a febrile seizure it isn't how high the temperature reaches it's how quickly it gets so high it could spike from 98 to 100 extremely fast and cause a seizure and bringing the temperature down to quickly can also cause a seizure. I wish that on no one.

My son also had the febrile seizures twice when he was a year and a half. So scary. The fevers were from an ear infection. That was 37 years ago and it still scares me when a baby has a fever.

Awe! Hope the babies feel better soon! Temps are no fun, I had a seizure that lasted a really long time when I was 15 months because my temp spiked so SO fast, plus the fact that I was super sick. To this day, my parents still get nervous when I have a fever and I'm 18. By the way...the edits have been awesome Cullen, I love all the references!! Katie you made my day with that statement about everyone having a temperature. 😂 It's a pet peeve of mine when people say they "have a temperature" when they're talking about a fever. Everyone has a temperature!!

Rectal temps are a degree higher than when taken orally. When taken in the ear, it's a degree lower than oral temp..so when comparing temps over time, it helps to use a consistent method for comparison

I'm sure you know this but a cool cloth on their forehead or under their neck can help. Also a lukewarm bath can help bring temps down. I nannied a little girl once and her temp was close to 104. Gave Motrin, got her in the bath and she was fine after an hour.

My daughter who is 2.5 years old woke up with a 102.4 fever. She felt great yesterday and when she went to bed. This was out of no where. Her school told me there is a virus going around where kids are getting fevers without any other symptoms. Her fever is now gone. Feel better Brooks!

When you take a temperature rectally you're supposed to take a degree off. When you take a temperature under the armpit you add a degree. It's so sad and makes you feel so bad when your little ones are sick 😢

fevers aren't bad, they are our bodies natural way at fighting stuff off, low grade fevers for children are between 100.5 and 102.2, over that is considered a high fever for a child, in the 99's isn't even considered a fever

Typically yes but some people run a naturally low temp. Mine is almost always around 96-97 so when I get up to 99-100 I am usually very sick. But if you usually run a normal temp, I would say 99 is definitely not a fever.

Charis Calhoon for a baby his age a fever is anything over 100.4 and fevers can cause seizures so yes fevers can be bad. My daughter has seizures from fevers. And a 101 or higher for a 7month old is very high and is not good

I was actually talking about Gains fever not Brooks, my son had a seizure at 18 months from his fever spiking, it was a low grade fever and jumped to over 105 in minutes, those kind of seizures are caused by a spike in temperature not a high fever, his dr had told us that they can happen at a much lower temp too if a fever spikes

When you take her temperature rectally you subtract a degree from the thermometer. Now when you take a temperature under the arm you add a degree. When you take it from the mouth you don't you either. Didn't know if you knew this just thought I would let you know. Hope everyone gets well fast.
