There was a September reprint for 151, I didn’t get any allocation from my distributor. I “thought” there might be way more product that hit the market but didn’t see it, and prices are spiking. This set has been insanely popular across the board vs evolving skies and other sets where people want just the chase cards. Everyone wants the 151 master set

yeah, i posted in a discord that 151 wasn't a one card chase set and got laughed at. its really not, people are chasing EVERYTHING for the master set. (obviously Charizard is the big chase as its the rarest.)

Everyone wants to do a binder of this set, THAT is where the demand is coming from in my opinion. Its gen 1, what did everyone do as a kid with gen 1? finish a binder of it of course. This set pulled in people fond of 1st gen back to the hobby just as strongly as the lockdown did in my opinion. -Possible god packs -Only english pokemon set to feature all 151 pokemon within one set -Only english pokemon set order to also align with pokedex order -Its gen 1 -Did I mention its gen 1?

I disagree. Yes, demand for 151 is probably higher than most other sets because of the amount of childhood collectors it brought back to the hobby, but demand is mostly being driven by fomo investors and scalpers. The amount of forum posts, youtube vids, and sales listings showcasing "investors"/scalpers' sealed stock is enough evidence to me that demand is somewhat being artificially inflated. Couple this with the fact that most the major retailers/distributors are looking only at their bottom line instead of the desires of collectors, allowing people to load literal pallets of product onto a dolly and buy every single one, and not to mention retailers price hiking. If, in an ideal world, everyone ripped the product they purchased you would see that we would probably have 151 on the shelves.

Yea pretty much EVERY SINGLE pull i ever got from 151 is dinged up or chipped in the back right out the pack. Granted, a few came from tins and the corners take a beating no matter what, but 151 has been unkind.

I opened exactly 100 boosters of 151 when the set came out, and I got zero SIRs. According to this data, I should have gotten about 3. Here’s why I think 151 and Evolving Skies is a fair comparison: the distribution of demand. 151 has the 1st Gen Starter lines and Pikachu - that’s 10 desirable cards (not including FAs) likely to hold demand over time. Evolutions had this with Eevee-lutions. It’s the only other set I can think of where there are so many chase cards that people will want *as an evolution line*, and 151 has the nostalgia factor, to boot.

People keep acting like any reprint will crash prices.. there “was” a small Sept reprint. The Zard has permanently increased as supply dried up and people realize it’s a tough PSA 10… reprint won’t do much to alter its trajectory, and sure it will still fluctuate up and down.

@@jordand1554 I understand the point your making and yes pokemon seems to continue to be an outlier in regards to SIR reprints. But EVERY OTHER TCG that gets a reprint crashes the price. One Piece, MTG, Yugioh, ETC. So again while pokemon may be an outlier in some cases its not always. SIRs clearly retain a lot of their value despite reprints but thats not the case for other cards in the games. Like Iono...... People believed that 151 was going to be like Crown Zenith which is still getting reprints and is Still affecting the prices. Outside of market manipulation.

The Data rate for Brilliant Stars is weird. I was pulling so many Alts. It was crazy. And I opened far less. Almost similar to broken Evolving Skies Print Wave 1. (Evolving you'd sometimes get 2 alts per box)

What is happening in the USA now with 151 happened here in Italy already few months ago, and the prices of singles never went down they're keep growing. There was a small restock here in the 4th of October and people woke up at 4-5 am and bought all the products at retail for resell. It was over in all Italy in just few hours. All the world is crezy for 151

Was the latest releases of 151 bundles and product not a reprint..? There’s scarlet and violet code cards in there and back in the old 151 product there were the swsh code cards. How is this one not a reprint? To add onto this, is it possible that pokemon entirely did not give 151 allocations to distributions because they’re gouging game stores in order to get it and as a result adding to the price of 151 rather than making it available

I have a lot of thoughts on this. It’s possible that it was a reprint that didn’t hit distros and only hit big box stores, but if that’s the case, it was incredibly small. If they are gouging LGS, they aren’t doing it right. A lot of the product is getting marked up at distros or being bought out at msrp by the 3rd market and scalped anyways. They would need to figure out a way to limit purchases properly, or avoid monitors that Immediately trigger individuals who Solely have intent to resell. Whatever they are doing, it isn’t working. At least that’s my opinion

There is no way a booster bundle of this product should be selling at double MSRP, much less the other sealed products. It's ridiculous and indicative of greed on all interested parties. If Pokemon Company really wanted to set things right, they would do a mass English reprint and flood the market, but that won't happen. Greed rules here.

The best thing TCGPlayer did this year was add those quantity sold bars to their charts to show the relationship between price and number of cards selling. There is no shortage of available supply for these singles. Quantities available for sale will continue to grow to meet price and will eventually bring these prices back down to a new floor. Especially with beginning of next years sets to shift demand and interest. Basic supply and demand activity is easier to read with a high volume, popular set like 151. Great analysis Danny! Danny, you can't compare pull rates with sets that are sprawled across several products and have booster boxes like crazy. 151 is only found in 151 packaging. 151 has more than likely had a way less print run, thus making it harder to obtain.

151 Booster bundles are 50ea. 8.33 a pack x 236 = $1966 to have a chance at a psa 10. Psa 10 charizard is hard to pull. The cards usually aren't centered or have some nicks and dings. Plus the packs are so rare. It took us 3 display cases and 5 upcs before we found a charizard.

I do agree it's a stretch to compare 151 to ES given the pull rates, but I do feel it's interesting to consider the abundance there was/is of ES vs 151, a which isn't creating tougher "pull rates" statistically, but the scarcity of 151 is creating a tougher pull for the zard in a more literal manner so to speak. Idk wtf I'm saying. Anyways... Yea I feel it's a mix of buy outs/manipulation/fomo/hundreds of thousands if not more people coming into the hobby due to this nostalgic set.

Being in the market for nearly 4 years now and what I’ve seen and learned about I would say it’s fairly likely that a reprint will probably happen atleast for etb’s. I only got a case of etb’s left from release and really thinking about selling it. With a year left in rotation I don’t see Pokémon letting regular etb’s stay around 100 for long. Unless they would rather get rid of the rest of their product for other SV sets this holiday season. I don’t know how the numbers match up but would say this idea is a low possibility.

But for the Charizard from 151 you have to consider that packs are more expensive than Brilliant Stars and Evo Skies ever were. Making it harder to pull per dollar which is how it should be done.

I found it interesting that PokeRev put out 2 videos opening 151 within a few days of each other and at the exact same time someone went onto ebay and purchased dozens and dozens of the Charizard card overnight right around the 1st video coming out. Then the prices skyrocketed.

Also you guys have to noticed that the charizard 199/165 art work is one that show the charizard more in hits element. The Umbreum is not really in its environment. Or at least not in the traditional way. The charizard one looks like you (the trainer) is just at a canyon and happen to see the charizard flying by.

If the ETB is close to $150 and UPC near $200 you better have some pulls worth some $$ in it, otherwise that is one expensive cardboard box?! Got one sealed on the self, and about to bust into another one today. As more keep them sealed , the value of whats inside will continue to climb. We have seen this in other collectible markets before, IF Nintendo is paying any attention, they will bank on the opportunity and do a reprint closer to Christmas, crash the collector market on it. 151 is the only set that I have ever mastered. I know a lot of the hype for this set is the nostalgia of gen 1 but I also think a lot of people want to master this set because it is the only set that goes in Pokedex order. So you can actually "catch them all" just like in the games. I really hope they do this for all the generations.

There is a great chance of no more reprint, and a tendency of a restock on what PCI have left at their warehouse. Despite of their recent purchase of a printing company, they can’t meet the demand of the shiny cardboard of 151, more recent sets, and future sets to come. Something will have to give. This could be the reason why some sets are short printed. The cheap 151 packs are long gone now and look toward Surging Sparks, as this bad boy may have limited quantities as well.

Its adults who grew up with the kanto pokemon who are adding the additional pressure and they love all the 151 pokemon so they are predisposed to wanting the master set, which means a lot of people are after all the cards, thus a lot of charizards are locked in to some dads binder. Thus the charizard collectors are buying from a far smaller pool than the pull rate implies.

Manipulation to a point. Like SWSH was manipulated but NEVER returned to original price. For example PSA 10 Lugia V alt art before "manipulation" was floating around 180-220. After manipulation it was 380. After the "crash" it went down to 280-340. So it will crash but never return to its original "agreed upon" starting point. so that Charizard will never be 130 dollars raw and never be 220 as psa 10.

You’d think with the holidays coming they’d drop a load , but it’s concerning that it’s crickets for distributors 🤷‍♂️. I think it’s clear by this point, pokemon isnt operating like they did during SwSh. There’s been ALOT of restocks…. They just come fast and furious and sell out in minutes or hours.

Why 151 is the dominant set: 1) All the original 151 Pokémon are in a single set for the first time, EVER in the TCG. 2) The set is in dex order and not the traditional type order, making it a desirable binder collection for the OCD collectors out there. 3) The return of Kadabra after decades without him in the TCG because of Uri Gellar having his heart warmed up to Pokémon because of his grand kids, so he relinquished his lawsuit victory. 4) Long lasting legacy pokemon with fan bases. 5) Amazing art, starters all getting illustration arts which are also connected thematically. 6) It's the only set that didn't fall victim to the gimmick of the era, no silly chandelier hats. 7) It's a special set, therefore more limited availability, therefore more scarcity. Everyone spent the past year sleeping on it, chopping it up to nostalgia & pandering. Eventually they came to realize, it's the most substantial set of all Scarlet & Violet. So now everyone's playing catch up to get the set.

If the Zard was same price as Moonbreon, then your argument is more logical that it isn't as deserving. The pull rate is proportional to price: 231 / 1080 compared to $208 / $1015. With PSA10 pop rate being worse for Zard, seems like actually it should be higher than it is.

English 151 print quality is crap, though. People like 10’s. That will inevitably increase the price of the chase cards, Charizard included. Moonbreon has twice the chance to get a PSA 10 vs the SIR Charizard.

TCG recent sale yesterday had 24 sunzards bought at 220 in one order. Seems artificial to me
